Waxman Strategies, a progressive public affairs firm led by former Congressman Henry Waxman, is accepting applications for a Grants Manager. We’re looking for talented and highly organized candidates to work with Waxman Strategies’ environment practice program and development staff, as well as our funding partners on foundation proposals, budgeting, management and reporting. You will also help support grant-making through a partner organization to international and domestic allies. As the Grants Manager, you will ensure our environmental campaigns have funding support and are on track with all budgeting and reporting needs.
Background and responsibilities:
Waxman Strategies is looking for a full-time grants manager to work with philanthropies, governments and non-profit organizations, including international funders, to manage a portfolio of environmental grants. This is an excellent opportunity to work with staff across our environment practice, as well as key contacts at foundations and other funding partners to ensure our environmental work’s funding is strong, well-organized, and on track with our plans. As the Grants Manager, your responsibilities will include:
Working with key program officers and administrative personnel at our funders to manage grants and ensure spending is on budget.
Playing a lead role on financial reporting of grants, including working with program and development staff from Waxman Strategies’ environment practice to ensure timely, well-executed grant reporting.
Playing a support role in grant-making to international organizations by working closely with a partner organization.
Tracking grant spending and working with program staff in our environment practice to develop and monitor spending plans.
Ensuring accurate record-keeping for grant expenses.
Working with our environment practice program staff to develop grant budgets and assist with proposals to funders.
Ensuring compliance with funder requirements, including shepherding compliance with procurement procedures.
This is a full-time position based in Washington, D.C. You will report to the Managing Director and work closely with our senior environment team members.

You have a minimum of two years of professional experience, including a background in grants management and administrative work.
You are detail-oriented and highly organized.
You have some familiarity with fundraising, grant-making, reporting and compliance and are motivated by the change it’s helping make in the world.
You can take initiative and problem-solve.
You have a passion for environmental and social justice issues.
You are proficient in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and QuickBooks.
You can work on deadline, adapt to changing situations, and switch between different projects and tasks on short notice.
You have experience handling confidential information.
You have excellent interpersonal skills and are a team player.
You have strong verbal and written communication skills.
