Under the general direction of the Family and Consumer Science Program Leader, the Educator Agent II will oversee the development and implementation of Family and Consumer Science initiatives within Extension’s plan of work focusing on the Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP) program and nutrition. Specifically, eighty-five percent of this position will be responsible for the management of the Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP), and alignment with the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Education (SNAP-Ed) for the state of Delaware.
Manage program, personnel, reporting requirements and budget of the federally funded Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program for the University of Delaware Cooperative Extension.
Coordinate with Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program - Education (SNAP-Ed) to ensure alignment of outcomes and resources for maximum impact.
Manage the work of paraprofessionals working on nutrition education for sponsored programs including training and professional development.Identify topic needs for curriculum development.
Work collaboratively with representatives of other agencies and organizations to identify nutrition, health, and food safety needs of families in the state of Delaware.
In coordination with the Family and Consumer Science team, motivate, train and provide opportunities for volunteers and staff, including continuing education in-service, to enhance educational outreach.
Using the UD Cooperative Extension Plan of Work and Sponsored Program requirements as a guide, work with other FCS staff to plan, market, deliver and evaluate research based nutrition and food safety related programming in the state of Delaware.
Develop and maintain professional competence through participation in educational meetings, seminars, and workshops locally and statewide.
Must follow affirmative action and equal opportunity guidelines to insure equal access to Extension programs.
Bachelor’s degree plus four years’ experience or Master’s plus two years’ experience in Extension teaching, research or related experience. RD preferred.
Knowledge of Extension and youth and/or adult education methods.
Excellent organizational, management and human relations skills, including past experience working with diverse teams.
Excellent written communication and public speaking skills.
Must demonstrate the ability to effectively motivate and teach on an individual/group basis with a variety of audiences and educational levels.
Exhibit the ability to work with and lead others in food safety and nutrition programming.
Knowledge of and sensitivity of the needs of diverse cultures with ability to design programs that are culturally sensitive and relevant.
Demonstrated excellence in conducting informal educational outreach programs for adults; applied research and successful grant writing are expected.Commitment to the interdisciplinary philosophy and programming in Family and Consumer Sciences is expected.
Recent successful experience in planning, implementing, marketing and evaluating Extension Family and Consumer Sciences interdisciplinary programs for adults.
Knowledge and understanding of the land-grant university system.
Evidence of substantial professional preparation and experience with adult audiences is preferred.
Ability to communicate effectively, orally and written, with individuals of diverse backgrounds, ranging from academics to the general public.
Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills.
Strong computer skills.
Must be available to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as necessary.
Valid driver’s license and reliable means of transportation required.
