Budget Title: Instructional Support Associate (SL-2)
The Instrument Repair Specialist has the following duties and responsibilities:
Maintain (electrical, electronic, and mechanical) departmental research and instructional instruments/equipment. Duties include installing new equipment; troubleshooting problems; performing repairs; obtaining prices/quotes for parts and repairs; maintaining inventory of spare parts. Excellent interpersonal skills are required to facilitate face-to-face, telephone and/or email communications with users and vendors.
Assist staff and students with normal equipment maintenance by providing physical help and by suggesting operational procedures or record-keeping needed to track equipment use.
Support the department's administrative and research computing needs by troubleshooting and repairing computers and accessories; solving issues related to the installation and use of software packages; providing technical specifications and pricing details for the purchase/replacement of computers and accessories.
Maintain virtual (VMware) and physical Linux servers that support the department's instructional program and host faculty web sites. Duties include general system administration such as installing updates and adding/removing users; installing, configuring and maintaining applications; performing and maintaining backups.
Associate's degree or higher
Must have a minimum of two years' experience in repair, troubleshooting or building of scientific equipment and instruments
Must have experience with computer programming and networking
Must have experience with maintenance and repair of computers
Must have willingness and ability to interact with a diverse population of faculty, staff and students
