Overview Securities Operations is the function that provides both Custody and Clearance services for J. P. Morgan clients. The Direct Custody Hong Kong Operations Manager is responsible for end to end custodian services ranging from settlement activities in the Hong Kong market including China Connect and Bond Connect, account opening, reference data, reconciliation, fee billing, corporate actions and FX. Extensive collaboration with Product, Technology, Legal, Compliance, Risk, Finance, Tax and Customer Service is essential with in-country and regional functional partners to ensure operational capabilities meet high service quality standards. This position reports to Regional Head of Direct Custody Operations and is responsible for leading and managing the Settlements and Client Services and providing oversight to offshore teams.
In depth un derstanding of Direct Custody Business and transaction processing is essential
Sound knowledge of Hong Kong Financial Market, China Connect and Bond Connect programs and its operating principals and rules
The job entails managing strong working relationship with external partners, including Stock Exchanges, Depositories, Brokers, Custodians and Issuers. Participate and drive market advocacy to ensure better client experience, manage risk & bring efficiency.
Evaluate effectiveness of workflows and processes with the aim of improving efficiencies as well as the timeliness and accuracy of the production process.
Comply with audit and compliance regulations and be the focal point for audit and client visits.
Critical in providing input, development and management of projects in the team on system enhancements, end to end process reviews
Ensure operational risks are identified and managed effectively, ensure systems and processes are in place to minimize and monitor and manage all aspects of operating risk and compliance in the custody operations functions
Develop succession planning for team members and build knowledge depth within team through cross training and coaching. Provide development opportunities to achieve career development needs.
Tertiary qualification in business or related field
5 years+ management experience in an Operations role
Strong people management skills and develop/guide staff in a team orientated environment.
Excellent written and oral English communication skills.
Excellent customer service skills and able to handle difficult situations internally and externally
Capable of working under pressure and to cope with changing volumes, whilst maintaining accuracy and quality.
Team player with excellent problem solving skills with attention to detail.
Prior knowledge on robotics and process automation (RPA) would be desirable.
Good knowledge in MS Office Suite applications - MS Word, Excel and Power Point.
Keen learner with drive, enthusiasm and ability to motivate others.
Flexibility in working hours is a must as there will be work rotational shifts with occasional requirement to cover bank holidays.
