Where the Chemistry Happens
The Strategic Planning team of Basic Petrochemicals (N-CPN/B) is seeking a professional like you who will be responsible for supporting the Basic Petrochemicals Business Team with development, evaluation and appropriation of strategic projects for the Cracker Business, as well at Ethylene Oxide and Propylene Oxide businesses.
Basic Petrochemicals in North America are broadly traded commodities with a high degree of price volatility. Triggered by currently very low feedstock costs as a result of shale oil and shale gas developments, the industry is going through an investment boom, which will have a tremendous impact on the petrochemical market, on prices for products and feedstocks and on the profitability of investment opportunities.
In this role, you will work with a broad spectrum of BASF Corporation and BASF SE teams, therefore you will need to bring organizational maturity and technical and business acumen to perform the job effectively.
Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent
Formula for Success
Leveraging your educational background in Engineering and professional experience in strategic business development, you will provide the support needed to develop business cases in the Basic Petrochemicals Group in CP North America. You will also have the opportunity to utilize your business development skills to support the group.
Your strong proficiency in business case development, economic analysis and flexibility to understand diverse business opportunities will be essential to position the business to be more competitive.
Your robust analytical skills will be necessary to support the creation of mass balances (technical projects) for developing base case and project cases, understanding constraints that will be used for modeling economics for various scenarios with sensitivities.
Your high level of autonomy and decision-making ability will serve you well as you model (rigorous and non-rigorous) and evaluate multiple options/opportunities and business cases and provide economic analysis for various projects. ( Due to size of the contemplated projects and investment opportunities, final decisions are being made at the BASF president or Board level.)
Contributing any understanding you may have of the breadth of operations within the Basic Petrochemicals businesses including assets in Port Arthur, TX (BTP Cracker), Freeport operation, Geismar EO operation as well as all supply chain and logistics operations pertaining to these assets or other new investments will be a valued asset as you carry out the responsibilities of the position. The collective value of the assets is in the order of $6 Billion with EBIT in the range of $400 Million and annual investment budgets in the range of $350 Million.
Supporting the Basic Petrochemical Business Team, you will conduct various analyses of operations, cost, profitability market and feedstock for the cracker business. Additionally, you will identify and analyze potential opportunities for new projects and business optimization in close cooperation with all the key members of the BU as well as the Strategic Planning team.
Demonstrating your research and networking skills, you will acquire Market Intelligence through existing subscriptions, industry networks and other alliances and centralize that information (including period review with the business team).
Successfully engaging across the organization, you will help the team in preparing and aligning processes between the assets, commercial group and capital planning protocols. This will include management of work process to govern strategic projects outlook, alignment, review with stake holders and alignment for appropriations (Project Pipeline)
Working collaboratively, you will support the team by utilizing and maintaining simulator (ROMEO) in coordination and consultation with the cracker experts (for the Cracker operation in Port Arthur, TX) to help with developing scenarios for running various business cases.
