Towson University is accepting applications for a Director of Student Services to work at its Northeastern Maryland (TUNE) facility. This employee will have multiple areas of responsibility that both coordinate and provide general student services to University students completing degrees at the Northeastern Maryland facility. This employee will serve as a liaison to numerous Student Affairs and Enrollment Management services located on the University’s main campus including but not limited to Disability Services, Career Center, Counseling, Student Conduct, Student Activities, Registrar, Financial Aid and Bursar.
The selected candidate will report both to the Associate Vice President for Student Affairs at Towson University and the Executive Director of Towson University in Northeastern Maryland (TUNE). The selected candidate will have the opportunity to work with individual and small groups of students as well as the general student, faculty, and staff populations at TUNE’s friendly and intimate campus setting.
Towson University in Northeastern Maryland (TUNE) is located on the grounds of Harford Community College in Bel Air, MD.
Plan and produce orientation and other student service programs including but not limited to career, financial aid, or other student service focused topics for the TUNE student population. In coordination with main campus, provide students with information on safety and wellness topics mandated by federal and/or state government and USM.
Implement a Student Advisory Council (SAC) to solicit feedback and suggestions from students as to the educational, social, and/or recreational programs and services they would like to see at the TUNE campus. Support and advise student organizations and student activities at TUNE. Support and/or coordinate the Academic Programs’ and/or students’ generated Community Service/Outreach opportunities.
Develop, in conjunction with the main TU campus departments, local resources for counseling, health, recreational needs, and other service referrals or amenities. Coordinate with Harford Community College whenever possible. Intervene, in coordination with main campus services and/or local response agencies, with students on behavioral and mental health issues. Be knowledgeable about crisis intervention strategies with students.
Serve as a member of management team of TUNE with Executive Director, Operations Manager, Academic Program Manager, and Academic Support Coordinator. Serve in absence of Executive Director when necessary. Serve on the Division of Student Affairs Leadership Team and represent TUNE at other Division and University meetings and functions as appropriate or assigned.
Manage and be responsible for TUNE Student Affairs, Foundation, and SGA budgets.
Other duties as assigned.
Master’s degree and five or more years related experience at the college or university level with much of it working in the student services area. Knowledge of higher education and student affairs. Experience working with students including advising on general student issues and concerns. Ability to manage student crises situations and respond to emergencies. Ability to plan, implement, and coordinate services and programs. Excellent communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently, a self-starter who is also a team player. Ability to confidently make decisions. Basic computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office platform and use of the Internet required.
Experience with the following software preferred: budgeting software, social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Flickr), student information systems (e.g. PeopleSoft, Banner), platforms for tracking event RSVPs (e.g. Salesforce, Eventbrite, Google Forms), and tools for creating event flyers (e.g. Publisher, Canva).
