The Ohio Valley Conference is seeking an experienced and knowledgeable professional to serve as the Director of Compliance and Institutional Services.
Responsibilities: The Director of Compliance and Institutional Services shall serve, along with the Assistant Commissioner for Institutional Services, as the contact person for the OVC’s membership for compliance, academic and student-athlete well-being matters. Specific duties will include, but are not limited to:
•Assisting to manage all aspects of the conference’s rules compliance program, which includes providing NCAA and OVC rules interpretations, developing rules education materials and programming, facilitating in-person meetings and assisting member institutions with filing necessary legislative waivers;
•Administering necessary compliance paperwork including squad lists, eligibility forms, hardship waiver applications, medical absence waivers, and uses of the NCAA Student Assistance Funds;
•Assisting member institutions with the Division I Academic Performance Program and providing education regarding that program;
•Helping to coordinate the conference's enforcement program, including the violation reporting process to the NCAA;
•Administering the National Letter of Intent program;
•Depending on experience and background, the staff member should anticipate serving as a primary or secondary liaison to other OVC governance groups;
•Depending on experience and background, the staff member should anticipate serving as a primary or secondary liaison to the OVC Student-Athlete Advisory Committee;
•Monitoring Division I and conference governance and legislative activities along with keeping the conference membership informed about issues on the Division I agenda;
•Working with the OVC’s academic honor awards programs including nominations, voting, and award releases;
•Serving as a working staff member at the OVC Basketball Tournament;
•Assisting with OVC championships and sports administration as assigned; and
•Other duties as necessary.
For consideration for this position, candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree, but a master’s or law degree is strongly preferred. Candidates should have a minimum of 3 years of previous NCAA Division I rules compliance experience and have a working knowledge of Division I bylaws and the associated interpretative process. Experience at the NCAA National Office and/or a Division I conference office preferred. Candidates should be familiar with the NCAA enforcement, reinstatement and waiver processes and the Division I Academic Performance Program. Candidates must also be knowledgeable about the Division I governance structure and Institutional Performance Program. Candidates must possess outstanding interpersonal skills, be computer proficient (e.g., LSDBi, RSRO, Academic Portal and the NLI database) and be committed to helping to lead programs of integrity. The ideal candidate will have outstanding verbal and written communication skills and have an ability to travel over select weekends.
