With nation-wide responsibility for improving the health and well being of all Americans, the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) oversees the biomedical research programs of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and those of NIH's research Institutes.
The National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA), a major research component of the NIH and DHHS, is recruiting an outstanding early career scientist to lead a research program on medication development relevant to alcoholism and alcohol-induced tissue damage, with a focus on fibrotic disorders. Individuals with a background and experience in the following areas are especially encouraged to apply: pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics, rational drug design, medicinal chemistry, toxicology, use of animal models of disease and familiarity with the requirement and design of clinical trials, as evidenced by relevant high impact publications and patents, and grant support. Demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment is an important requirement. The successful candidate will be offered ample resources, including laboratory space, an annual budget to cover the stipends of trainees and the cost of supplies and small equipment and will have access to shared equipment.
The successful candidate will have a doctoral degree (M.D., Ph.D., or Pharm.D.) in a relevant field. Salary is commensurate with experience and accomplishments, and a full Federal package of benefits (including retirement, health, life and long-term care insurance, Thrift Savings Plan participation, etc.) is available.
