Position Title: Computer Science Faculty - Tenure Track

Massachusetts Bay Community College invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor of Computer Science from qualified applicants. Responsibilities will include developing and teaching courses in areas of computer science. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a passion for the relevant technical field(s), collaborative work with diverse faculty and staff, and an ability to positively influence, mentor, and work with diverse student populations. The successful candidate will be comfortable offering hands-on laboratory courses using current computer technologies, software, and tools. The applicant will demonstrate a solid understanding of a community college's role in workforce development as well as a successful transfer (through the creation of pathways) to a higher institution. The Ideal candidate will demonstrate a good understanding of shared governance, and a strong commitment to collaboration, and professional development. The successful candidate will assist the department in developing relevant courses and teaching strategies for students with diverse interests and learning styles in order to support student recruitment and retention. The ideal candidate will demonstrate excellent communication skills.
Key Responsibilities and Duties:
Teach a full-time schedule of courses in Computer Science and related disciplines;
Prepare syllabi and develop curricula to address course/program requirements, and student learning outcomes to meet graduation competencies as appropriate;
Serve as academic advisor to students as well as considering the needs of the students, and assisting them by seeking help from other college services;
Post and maintain a minimum of four (4) office hours per week;
Serve on College committees as elected or appointed;
Attend Program, Department, Division, Faculty, and Committee meetings;
Assist in selecting, recommending, creating, and preparing suitable instructional materials, lab experiences, simulations, demonstrations that utilizes a wide variety of teaching methods and modalities;
Assist the department and STEM Dean in recruiting qualified adjunct CS, CIS, cybers security, and IT faculty as needed;
Participate in the improvement and development of academic programs and resources, designations, accreditation, and assessment of courses and programs in consultation with the academic dean;
Engage in professional development activities to maintain excellence in teaching and learning;
Submit midterm and final grade reports, attendance records, early alerts, and other reports pertaining to assigned courses by required due dates;
Carry out other related duties as assigned by the Dean consistent with the Collective Bargaining Agreement;
Commitment to and understanding of the mission of the community college as well as observe, support, and enforce the regulations, policies, and programs of the College.
Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity or relevant fields from an accredited university;
Post-secondary teaching experience.
Teaching experience at a community college;
Relevant industry experience in software development, IT, or cyber security;
Demonstrated commitment to working with underrepresented students through teaching or mentoring;
Experience with distance learning and/or alternate instructional delivery systems;
Current industry-recognized certification in programming, IT (including OS), networking, or security;
Familiarity with the use of appropriate educational technology and equipment;
Experience with federal and/or state grants;
Interest in and familiarity with workforce development needs in the regional community;
Salary Range: $55,000- $65,000; Assistant Professor, in accordance with qualifications and experience and subject to the collective bargaining agreement.
The appointment salary is based on one's education and experience as dictated in the collective bargaining agreement classification compensation structure.
