UMBC's Office of Sponsored Programs has an excellent opportunity for college graduates. The incumbent will participate in a comprehensive training and development program, leading to the opportunity to work on a variety of pre-award grant and contract administration activities. Under senior supervision and mentoring, this position will work in collaboration with financial colleagues, legal advisors, principal investigators, department administrators, deans, and other key personnel across the campus, as well as counterparts in the private and government sectors. A career in sponsored research administration is a dynamic and growing area of expertise with established professional societies, ongoing training and networking opportunities, and a career ladder which provides for significant earning potential. The incumbent will learn and use the latest business practices while gaining contracting and grants management experience and in-depth knowledge of federal acquisition regulations.
Specific duties include: providing administrative support on grants and contracts while developing technical expertise reviewing pre-award proposals and compliance documentation; negotiating, administrating, and closing out sponsored projects; participating in presentations, outreach, and training in schools and departments as necessary; and performing other duties as assigned.
Required Minimum Qualifications:
For consideration for Senior Grants and Contracts Specialist a Bachelor's degree and a minimum of two years of experience reviewing research proposals for sponsor requirements, preferably in higher education.
For consideration for Grants and Contracts Specialist as Bachelor's degree.
Both require excellent communication, organization and customer service skills and proficiency in the use of computers and MS Office required.
Some knowledge of federal regulations relating to grants and/or contracts desired. Experience with Kuali or other electronic research administration systems is a plus.
