The Associate CISO is a leader of the Information Security team with a focus on several key strategic areas. Through a deep understanding of the University's highest information security risks and its mission of teaching, learning and research, the Associate CISO will assist with strategy and planning, drive the information security multi-year roadmap, and coordinate project management and communications. In partnership with the CISO and directors, sets the vision for the broader information security program.
Responsibilities will include:
Develop and implement Harvard's information security program in context of the NIST Cybersecurity Framework. Accountable for execution of the multi-year information security project roadmap, collaborate with partner HUIT organizations to set, evaluate and manage goals and priorities; manage project budgets. Measure effectiveness of the services and overall information security program.
Ensure alignment with the broad needs of the Harvard community. Ensure that the information security governance is well-defined and executed as designed.
Provide coordination across the team to ensure strong project management and communications.
Build collaborative relationships within the information security team, information technology partners, business stakeholders, risk management, general counsel, faculty advisory panels, and school-level administration.
Build external networks consisting of higher education and industry peers, and partners. Remain current with professional organizations and participate in national groups.

Ten or more years of experience in information technology, including as a senior leader, with a solid knowledge of a breadth of information security issues and technologies, including an understanding of risk and risk assessment, information security and data privacy laws and accepted industry practices.
Experience designing and running complex, multi-year projects involving a broad set of stakeholders.
Master's degree preferred.
Ability to develop and maintain highly effective, collaborative relationships as a leader, a trusted advisor, and consultant.
Excellent technology management skills and demonstrated ability to lead through influence and negotiation.
Demonstrated ability to innovate and think strategically.
Excellent problem solving and analytical skills in complex, new, or uncomfortable situations.
Excellent communications, public speaking, and presentation skills; comfortable presenting technical material to senior management and executive audiences.
Demonstrated ability to operate within a complex and decentralized environment.
Desired certifications: CISSP or CISM (or ability to pursue one or both of these)
