Function of Position Responsible to the Head Athletic Trainer for demonstrating, expanding basic knowledge and skill in standard prevention, emergency care, evaluation, treatment & rehabilitation techniques; following standard principles and using appropriate medical terminology; participating as a team member in a collaborative environment; actively contributing to completion of team goals and assigned tasks; clearly communicating in written and verbal form; complying with and having basic knowledge of policies & procedures; referring to supervisors for questions regarding policy and procedure related decisions; typically working under general supervision using established procedures and protocols; following recommended approach to assigned work to facilitate achievement of desired results; and, performing other related duties as assigned.
Essential Functions Provides direct care for athletic team activities.
Maintains responsibility for the coverage of East Tennessee University athletic teams as assigned.
Assists with athletic training services to physician and within the BucSports Athletic Medicine Center.
Assists in facilitating and implementing all aspects of health care for assigned team, including but not limited to: prevention, practice/event coverage, injury evaluation, physician referral, medical appointments, treatment and rehabilitation and team travel.
Maintains responsibility for activating the Emergency Action Plan for sports/venues as assigned.
Maintains proper medical records in accordance with all government and university guidelines.
Adheres to existing University and appropriate external regulatory agency (i.e. NATABOC, HIPAA, FERPA, NCAA) guidelines and safety policies.
Completes appropriate paperwork including but not limited to incident or injury reports for student athletes or BucSports patients.
Assists with sports medicine department administrative duties as assigned.
Serves as a mentor and supervisor to certified graduate assistant and certified intern athletic trainers; supervises undergraduate interns.
Maintains responsibility for basic day-to-day communication (including participation status) with athletes, coaches, strength & conditioning staff, physicians, sports medicine staff, athletic department staff, and administration as assigned.
Earns and maintains appropriate professional certifications; displays a willingness to learn and is building upon exposure to advanced topics and skills within the field of athletic training; stays current in related research and trends; seeks to expand working knowledge.
Secondary Functions Performs other related duties as assigned.

Master's degree in sport science or related field is required. Ability to apply casting and splinting material as directed by team physician, minimum of two years of experience as a certified athletic trainer (certified graduate assistantship accepted). Current National Athletic Trainers' Association Board of Certification (NATABOC) certification and current CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer is required along with the eligibility for State of Tennessee licensure
