The Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs is seeking candidates for the role of Research Assistant. The Belfer Center is the hub for Harvard University's research, teaching, and training in international security affairs. In 2019, it was ranked the world's #1 university-affiliated think-tank for the sixth year in a row.
Research Assistants support Graham Allison, the Douglas Dillon Professor of Government at the Harvard Kennedy School, in conducting in-depth research on topics such as US foreign policy and strategy; China; defense and intelligence policy; global nuclear security and nonproliferation; and a range of other major international security issues.
The Research Assistant works closely with other members of a small research team and plays a key role in developing research products, including policy memos, op-eds, journal articles, and book chapters, and performs related job duties as required.
This is a benefits eligible term appointment through June 30, 2020, with possibility of renewal.

Candidates must demonstrate significant knowledge of, and interest in, current international security issues; exceptional writing skills; basic quantitative proficiency; and a demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision under tight deadlines.
Bachelor's degree required
At least one year of related work experience is required, along with demonstrated knowledge of various research methods and statistical techniques. Relevant coursework may count toward experience.
Master's Degree preferred.
Candidates with a research background in China, economics, nuclear weapons, US politics, and/or the Middle East are encouraged to apply, but experience with these topics is not a requirement.
We are hiring for two positions; for one of the positions, however, we are looking for someone with a background in economics, and if possible, some background in China.
