Position Summary: We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Short Order Cook.
In this role, the successful candidate performs work of moderate difficulty in the preparation of various menu items which involves a variety of cooking operations as instructed by immediate supervisor or designee.
Prepares breakfast items and vegetables as well as any other cooked-food items, as designated. Sets up assigned work area by collecting and assembling food and supplies needed to complete duties. Sets up and prepares equipment for use in food production. Follows proper cooking procedures in accordance with the standardized recipe cards and the supervisor's instructions to produce a uniformed product. Implements procedures necessary to satisfy all customer/patient dietary restrictions. Garnishes the food properly.
Utilizes all types of kitchen equipment to prepare food. Uses the following appropriate equipment: griddles, grills, ovens, deep-fat fryers, slicers, choppers, steamers, steam kettles, tilt fry kettles, mixers, robo coup, and miscellaneous small equipment such as knives, paddles, whips, etc. for proper preparation of food. Uses the appropriate equipment for the proper preparation and service of food.
Follows established departmental sanitation standards. Follows HACCP code compliance, and all food safety standards. Applies correct sanitary procedures.
Attends meetings and in-services for food production employees. Assures management of attendance at meeting & in-services by signing attendance sheet. Fully aware and understands material and instructions given.
Maintains open communication and good relationships with others. Listens carefully to others in order to respond appropriately, answer questions, or obtain needed information. Works well with all levels of staff. Works at establishing a good rapport and professional working relationship with customers, all departmental personnel; maintains appropriate interdepartmental communications. Maintain customer service utilizing the 'Just Say Yes' service model.
Uses good judgment and consults supervisor when necessary. Consults with supervisor on matters of uncertainty. Demonstrates good judgment by following verbal and written instructions carefully. Advise supervisor of problems requiring follow-up attention. Demonstrates an ability to learn and adapt to changes in hospital functions, management style or routines.
Plans work assignments accordantly and utilizes time effectively. Completes assignments within allotted time frames. Adjusts well to changes in work schedule, work flow and priorities.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent. Requires a minimum of one (1) year of cooking experience as Cook's Helper in a high volume health care institution or commercial establishment with a large volume food service. Must be able to read, write and speak English. Must be knowledgeable in portion control, forecasting procedures, and ingredients. Must be able to follow recipes, expand and reduce recipes to desired yields. Must be knowledgeable of HACCP and follow this in all operations. Must know food presentation and service. Must be able to follow written and verbal instructions.
Preferred Qualifications: Culinary degree or certificate.
Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.
