About BRIGHTON PARK NEIGHBORHOOD COUNCIL
Brighton Park Neighborhood Council (BPNC) is a community-based, nonprofit organization serving a low-income working class neighborhood on Chicago’s southwest side. BPNC’s mission is to create a safer community, improve the learning environment at public schools, preserve affordable housing, provide a voice for youth, protect immigrants’ rights, promote gender equity, and fight all forms of violence. Founded in 1997, BPNC unites individuals and neighborhood institutions to organize campaigns to win essential resources for one of Chicago’s most under served communities, improve public policy and address the root causes of poverty and inequality.
BPNC organizes campaigns to address the following issues: Education Justice, Housing and Economic Justice, Community Safety, Youth Development, and Immigrant Rights. In each of these core issue areas, BPNC assists community leaders in organizing their own resources and capacity to affect substantial and meaningful change. BPNC also provides a series of social services to affect positive change in the same issue areas, and maintains Full-Service Community School (FSCS) partnerships with five local schools (Burroughs Elementary, Davis Eleme...ntary, Shields Elementary, 'Shields Middle, and Kelly High School). These partnerships have increased our ability to not only sustain and increase our impact in the community, but has also assisted us in obtaining successful outcomes for all of our initiatives and services.
