UTA has expanding programs to provide undergraduate students with additional opportunities to pursue research and entrepreneurship activities with faculty mentors. These programs are part of the UTA Maverick Advantage program, which is designed to provide our students with key skills employers are looking for such as communication, critical thinking, and teamwork. The director will oversee the assistant director of undergraduate research, who runs very programs that support student research. The director will also work in collaboration with the director of the McNair Scholars Program, which supports undergraduate research through a grant, and with the director of Innovation and Commercialization, who runs programs for faculty and students on commercializing innovations. The director will also partner closely with the College of Business and College of Engineering on entrepreneurship programs to engage their students and students from across UTA. They will also serve as a resource to the entrepreneurial community throughout DFW enabling strategic partnerships with local entrepreneurial organizations, incubators, and Chamber of Commerce and city governments.
Coordinates the overall undergraduate research program at UTA in close partnership with the assistant director of undergraduate research, who reports to the director. Coordinates undergraduate entrepreneurship activities in partnership with the Director of Innovation and Commercialization and the Colleges of Business and Engineering to Incubate innovation and transfer technology through entrepreneurship. Work across campus with administrators and faculty on strategic planning and development of new programs to grow student research and entrepreneurial activities. With the Office of Student Affairs and the Honors College. Works with outside companies to engage them with student research and entrepreneurial programs. Raises funds to support and grow programs through proposals and with University Advancement on fundraising initiatives. Performs other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLSANDABILITIES: Evidence of ability to provide leadership and vision. Demonstrated ability to lead teams in problem solving and promote team-building. Experience in curriculum development. Demonstrated commitment to promoting and enhancing interdisciplinary approaches to learning. Experience in teaching entrepreneurship. Supervisory experience with professional staff and/ or students. Evidence of excellence in written communication, oral communication, and interpersonal skills. Entrepreneurial experience.
Master's Degree in entrepreneurship, engineering, business, arts, or related fields. Minimum of three (3) years of experience in higher education. Experience with student research or entrepreneurial programs and/or working with universities in these program areas.
A Master’s degree with a working knowledge and three (3) or more years of experience related to university student research, entrepreneurship, and corporate partnerships.
