Pingree is currently seeking applicants for a part-time, after-school, co-curricular position as Technical Theater Director in the Art Department. The start date for the position is August 2019. We are looking for energetic and versatile candidates who possess a passion for and broad experience in the field of technical theater and theater design technology as well as a desire to work collaboratively in a dynamic and collegial department of artist-teachers. The Technical Theater Director will work as a member of the production team for Pingree’s after school Fall Theater and Winter Musical Theater Productions. The hours for the position are approximately 15-20 hours per week during the Fall and Winter Production seasons, with possibility of Spring hours to be determined.
Working in collaboration with our Theater Director, the candidate will be responsible for set design, building, and lighting design. Additionally, the candidate will teach and oversee a student technical theater crew for both theater productions. The Technical Theater Director is also responsible for the oversight and maintenance of our Scene Shop, and costume/prop storage spaces. The opportunity may exist to teach a half-credit course in design and building, and/or units of study that are incorporated into existing theater courses during the academic day. The successful candidate will be deeply invested in a student-centered and process-intensive approach to technical theater and design pedagogy, will have enthusiasm and appreciation for working with adolescents of a wide range of arts experience, and will desire to take imaginative risks and to innovate in their design work and their teaching.

Potential candidates should have experience teaching technical theater to students at the secondary school level. A B.F.A. in Technical Theater or Theater Design and Technology is preferred.
