Within the Department of Medicine at UCSD, the Center on Gender Equity and Health (GEH) focuses on conducting innovative global public health research, medical and academic training, and evidence-based intervention development and evaluation of programs related to gender inequities, gender-based violence, and sexual and reproductive health (adolescent and unintended pregnancy, family planning, human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)/Sexually transmitted infections (STI), healthy birth spacing).
The team of social science and epidemiology researchers assembled by GEH includes leading figures in measurement and rigorous evaluation of sustainable programs working with girls, young women, their male partners and their families to understand and change gender-based behaviors and social norms that compromise health and safety. GEH epidemiologic and evaluation research is currently being undertaken in South Asia, Mexico and Central America, west and east sub-Saharan Africa, and the United States. This research is supported by a diverse portfolio of public and private funders, conducted in conjunction with international non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and includes engagement with local and national governments.
Under the direct guidance of the principal investigator and the senior research manager, the Research Project Coordinator is responsible for the coordination and management of research data for global health behavioral science research in the areas of gender equity, reproductive health, maternal and child health and gender based violence, in the US and in international settings. Responsibilities include survey development and programming, field team training and monitoring, data management and quality assurance functions to ensure the timely progression and analysis of research protocols.
On occasion, this position may require local, national and/or international travel, with Principal Investigators and/or Senior Research Program Manager to visit study sites and/or study partners for the purposes of planning, data collection and/or dissemination.
Under direct guidance of senior researcher, applies acquired skills and knowledge of applicable research discipline to support field research projects of small to medium size and intermediate scope and complexity, including but not limited to research in environmental, public health, social or biological science disciplines.
Bachelor's Degree in related area; and/or equivalent experience/training.
A minimum of two (2+) or more years of relevant experience.
Proven knowledge of safety, legal, cultural and regulatory requirements relative to field research responsibility.
Working knowledge of research discipline, principles, concepts, analysis and/or operations being conducted at field/remote sites. Knowledge of local customs and operations at field/remote sites.
Demonstrates ability to develop and maintain strategic relationships and partnerships with remote research partners.
Proficient research and analytical skills. EndNote proficiency. Familiarity with SPSS, SAS, Stata, or R.
Strong experience researching, gathering, organizing information to produce reports, correspondence, graphs, and spreadsheets to generate, track, and analyze the required data.
Demonstrates ability to work in ambiguous conditions. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
Strong communication skills with project team members. Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to communicate ideas clearly and succinctly, with tact and diplomacy, both orally and in writing.
Solid organizational skills with ability to be flexible, and able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously. Ability to prioritize workload to meet shifting deadlines and changing priorities with frequent interruptions.
Gender Equity/Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn and Child Health (RMNCH)/Child Marriage or gender-based violence (GBV) research experience.
Degree in Global/Public Health, or similar.
Proficiency in a secondary language (Hindi, Marathi, French, Spanish).
WordPress familiarity and/or previous web development experience.
