City of Hope National Medical Center (COH) is a world leader in the research and treatment of cancer, diabetes and other serious diseases. City of Hope includes a 217-bed medical center as well as 30 health clinics that stretch from Thousand Oaks (the furthest west) to Palm Springs (furthest east). It is a time of growth for COH, with new clinics set to open in Orange County, a $14 million cancer clinic slated to open this year in Newport Beach, and a $300 million cancer center expected to open in 2022 in Irvine. The Executive Director will lead nursing efforts across all inpatient, outpatient and community settings to establish an environment that supports the delivery of high-quality patient care. The Executive Director reports to and supports the Senior Vice President, Chief Nursing & Patient Services Officer and is accountable for inter-professional practice; the Magnet program; and Quality with a focus on improving outcomes. He/She promotes quality staff and patient outcomes through the development of programs and systems that achieve COH’s mission, vision, values and strategic plan. He/she will advance a culture of professional & inter-professional practice, foster evidence-based practices and continuous improvement, cultivate lifelong learning, and partner in the implementation and enhancement of technology to support clinical practice and service excellence. The Executive Director supports the PDCA model of quality improvement and partners with physicians, hospital executives, senior leaders, managers and staff to integrate annual quality goals with quality improvement/safety initiatives and to execute key performance improvement strategies. Direct reports include: a Magnet Program Manager, a Clinical Informaticist, a Patient Services Quality Manager, and a Performance Improvement facilitator.
The Executive Director is responsible for oversight of the Magnet designation program across the enterprise. He/She maintains expert knowledge of current Magnet requirements and is responsible for coordinating all aspects of the ANCC Magnet application process to ensure designation including active participation in Nursing Shared Governance Councils.
Bachelor and Masters’ degree one of which must be in nursing. Active or eligible for RN licensure in California.
Eight to ten years of nursing leadership preferred, minimum of five years required.
Experience in leading an organization to achieve Magnet recognition.
Experience in Quality Improvement.
Excellent interpersonal, communication and collaboration skills. Ability to implement change.
Ability to engage and influence physicians, staff, and leadership through effective communication and data driven decision making.
