Position Summary: We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Speech Lang Pathologist Intern.
Position Summary:Responsible for providing speech-language pathology services under the supervision. The position is designed to accommodate a Clinical Fellowship Year (CFY) as designated by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Special Assignments - Responsible for special duties necessary for ongoing operation of department: (e.g. minutes secretary, material maintenance, etc.). Carries out assignment as described in P&P manual.
Under direct supervision, guides, informs and counsels families with respect to communication disorders. Interprets patients assessment finding to patient and family. Provided information to patient and family regarding the speech and language pathology recovery course and psychosocial impact. Engages family in on-going treatment planning including access to SLP services. Instructs family and caregivers regarding techniques to improve communication function. Involves caregivers in planning treatment termination. Provides information about community resources.
Under direct supervision, assesses patients communication function and abilities. Uses medical and social history to determine constraints on evaluations. Demonstrates thorough patient/family interviewing techniques to determine functional communication, establish patients understanding of SLP goals for treatment, recovery expectations and desire for SLP treatment. Conducts SLP evaluation according to P&P manual. Effectively screens patient for identification of SLP assessment needs and assigns accurate FIM and Wee FIM ratings.
Documents treatments rendered and patient attendance accurately and in accordance with departments protocols, RIRM, NYUMC and other health standards. Maintains clinical documentation according the departmental P&P manual. Completes concise and accurate, timely documentation. Maintains the security of all patient files and keeps all patient information confidential. Follows insurance guidelines for documentation. Documents patient attendance in an accurate and timely fashion.
Conducts group and individual therapy sessions under supervision. Implements plan in individual/group sessions and appropriately orients patient/caregivers to SLP treatment and interprets SLP role. Establish/maintains accepting climate for expression of feelings. Uses flexibility and creativity in tasks designed for treatment sessions. Permits patient control and choice as much as feasible. Demonstrates group leadership role in enhancing interaction. Uses tact, empathy and feedback regarding the speech-language pathology, progress and recovery.
Develops, evaluates and plans speech-language pathology treatment programs according to changing communication needs and requirements, conferring with supervisor as required by CFY standard. Uses medical, psychosocial information results of SLP evaluation and patients stated goals to develop realistic plan. Provides clear rational for all aspects of treatment plan, re-evaluates and amends plan as necessary. Monitors and reassess functional and clinical progress in a complete manner. Anticipates and plans for discharge.
Minimum Qualifications: To qualify you must have a Minimum Qualifications:MA/MS Degree in Speech-Language Pathology: individual in process of fulfilling 9 months full-time, supervised clinical practice (Clinical Fellowship Year) for licensure.
