Elon University is seeking candidates for an entry level, full-time, 12 month position as Global Engagement Advisor. This person will join a team of international education professionals to contribute to Elon’s strategic institutional goal of providing 100% access to a global engagement for students.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
This position will:
Take a primary role on the Short-Term, Faculty-led Programs team, which includes management of a subset of primarily January (winter term) programs
Develop and monitor program budgets; maintaining short-term program communication channels, documentation, and website content.
Engage and collaborate with diverse stakeholders including faculty, parents, students, other Short Term Team members, internal GEC staff members and external Elon administration, government personnel, vendors, and service providers
Assist in pursuing Elon University’s strategic goal of 100 percent access to global engagement.
Support University initiatives around equity, diversity, and inclusion.
Manage a portfolio of programs including study abroad affiliate and bilateral exchange programs.o
Maintain relationships with affiliate partner providers/exchange partners while keeping up to date on academic offerings and individual program details.
This includes but is not limited to academic advising, program selection, career document advising, visa application processing, etc.
Advise students regarding short-term, semester and summer global engagement opportunities.
Duties include application management in TerraDotta and keeping program pages/materials updated throughout the year.
Become familiar with Elon degree plans, the Elon Core Curriculum and Elon’s global engagement student learning goals.
Lead study abroad / Study USA pre-departure orientation sessions for assigned set of programs.
Orientations include logistical information, cultural learning opportunities, family orientation webinars, and visa processes.
Address student and parent concerns on a variety of issues in a compassionate manner.
Pursue professional development opportunities in support of role and duties, in alignment with University goals, and in order to contribute to the field of international education.
It is expected that this person will collaborate with others in the office on strategic planning for global engagement, issues of risk management, curriculum integration and all aspects of successful global engagement programming and work on other projects as assigned.
Required: Bachelor’s degree; international study or off-campus, domestic study away experience. Strong writing/oral communication skills and attention to detail.
Preferred: One year of peer advising or other student employment in a study abroad office (part-time or full time). Or, one year of employment at a unit related to experiential learning (service, internship, research, leadership) at a four-year college/university. Or, experience working at a study abroad organization, or equivalent experience. Commitment to working with students from diverse and underrepresented populations in study abroad. Proficiency in a foreign language. Previous experience with TerraDotta.
