The Certified Ambulatory Surgical Technician works under the supervision of a surgeon to facilitate the safe and effective conduct of surgical procedures, ensuring that the operating room environment is safe, that equipment functions properly, and that the operative procedure is conducted under conditions that maximize patient safety. The essential functions of the role include the following:
Sets up Operating Room according to surgical procedure schedules and arranges sterile set up of instrument table supplies and equipment required for specific procedures.
Cleans Operating Room following each case by removing drapes, replacing hamper bags and trash bags, disposing of used supplies, cleaning and returning equipment to appropriate storage areas.
Ensures the cleaning, decontamination, sterilization, maintenance and preparation of surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies for distribution.
Collaborates and maintains control and maintenance of inventory; order supplies; documents equipment uses and cart supplies; maintains applicable records and files supplies in accordance with Baylor Scott and White Health policies and procedures and regulatory standards.
Follows infection control policies, AORN recommendation practices, OSHA guidelines, and other regulatory requirements to assure a safe work environment for self, coworkers, and patients.
The ideal candidate must be knowledgeable of infection prevention and regulatory sterilization standards, application of sterile and aseptic techniques, human anatomy, surgical procedures, and implementation tools and technologies to facilitate a physician's performance of invasive therapeutic and diagnostic procedures. In addition, the ideal candidate must have excellent verbal and written communication skills and have the interpersonal skills to interact with surgical and central sterile processing team members.

Graduate of an Accredited Program
Certified Surgical Technologist from National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) or US military surgical technologist training program
