Maintains City financial records in compliance with generally accepted governmental accounting principles. Performs all general ledger transactions, reporting and reconciliation with specific emphasis in financial reporting.
Responsible for journal entries affecting the general ledger and assist in reviewing and correcting as necessary.
Coordinate and complete journal entry posting and procedures for timely monthly closing.
Performs reconciliation of selected balance sheet accounts on a monthly basis. Prepare any necessary adjusting journal entries.
Functions as a backup to the Senior Accountant for the reconciliation of the City's major consolidated bank statement and resolve all discrepancies.
Review and correctly code the general ledger interface postings from other systems.
Prepares financial reports and analysis as needed.
Prepares year-end closing entries and work papers for selected funds and accounts in compliance with GASB standards.
Uses all application software as assigned.
Supports independent firm with annual audit process.
Assist in the preparation of the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) by completing individual, combining and entity-wide statements and tables.
Completes specialized analytical projects as assigned.
Performs all other related duties as assigned.
Education Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or related business field required.
Experience 1 year of increasingly responsible accounting experience required. Municipal accounting experience or internal/external audit experience preferred.

Knowledge of government accounting including CAFR preparation and creation.

Intermediate to Advanced Excel capabilities including pivot tables, V-lookup and additional functions used to manipulate data in performing the accounting tasks as assigned when necessary.
Must submit to and pass a pre-employment drug test.
