The Director of International Education coordinates all aspects of the International Education program, including study abroad/study away, non-credit international experiences, and international student recruitment and support. The Director also provides leadership for International Education, including formulating and implementing a vision for International Education and campus internationalization. The Director assists in recruiting, advising and counseling prospective international students for Elmhurst College, by seeking opportunities to expand recruitment contacts, participating in recruiting events, and positively contributing to the attainment of new student enrollment goals. The director provides extended orientation and support services for international students and serves as a supplemental advisor for international students who matriculate to Elmhurst College.
1. Develops and implements strategic internationalization goals in line with the campus strategic plan, mission, vision and values. This includes providing high quality study away programs for Elmhurst undergraduate and graduate students, as well as providing strong recruiting and advising support for incoming international students. 2. Advises students on a wide variety of international and domestic study away programs. 3. Coordinates design and publication of promotional materials; Promotes study abroad at campus events; Provides overall direction for the study away website. 4. Implements improvements for existing study away programs as needed; Develops programs addressing wide academic, financial, and regional interests; Maintains approved programs list and evaluates if adjustments are needed. 5. Supports faculty in the development, implementation, recruitment, evaluation, and assessment of faculty-led programs. 6. Builds budgets, manages finances, and monitors costs for international programs. Coordinates with campus partners on financial aid and billing. 7. Assesses risk and manages liability for international programs. Serves as primary emergency responder for overseas incidents. 8. Develops and facilitates pre-departure and re-entry programming for study away students. 9. Builds relationships with prospective first-year, transfer, and graduate international students and families by informing them about College programs and admission procedures by maintaining effective positive relationships through outstanding customer service. 10. Plans and executes a schedule of communications with international prospective student contacts, and respond to inquiries in a timely and effective manner. 11. Participates in on-campus visitation programs sponsored by the Admission Office, including specifically being the point person for the international summer immersion programs for prospective students. 12. Utilizes the Slate CRM to run queries and track prospects’ progress through the enrollment process. 13. Demonstrates knowledge about general international admission practices and industry trends. 14. Maintains relationships with international partners, affiliate organizations and campus stakeholders. 15. Serves as the PDSO (Primary Designated School Official) to ensure compliance with all government regulations regarding international students; Maintains knowledge of both SEVPpolicies concerning academic programs and F-1 student visas regulations. 16. Oversees orientation, advising and programming for international students. 17. Develops an ongoing system of program evaluation and assessment. 18. Supervises professional staff and student employees. 19. Generates operational reports and analyses. 20. Demonstrates a strong commitment to continuous improvement. 21. Supports mission, vision, and values.
Other Duties and Responsibilties
1. Serves on-campus committees, as assigned, and on the UMAIE Consortium Board. 2. Engages in continuing professional development activities.
1. Master’s Degree in Education, International Studies or similar field with a strong interest in and understanding of international education. 2. Three years in supervisory role. 3. Five years of experience in the field of international education. 4. Familiarity with U.S. immigration regulations relating to non-immigrant students, experience as a Designated School Official (DSO) 5. Strong organizational, communication and time management skills. 6. Ability to undertake domestic and international travel. 7. Ability to maintain a flexible schedule, including night and weekend hours. 8. Demonstrated cross-cultural communication skills and experience working with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds. 9. Ability to work independently and as a key team member in Academic Affairs. 10. Ability to handle details accurately and confidentially. 11. Computer literacy in Microsoft Office Suite; familiarity with data management systems (preferably Ellucian and Terra Dotta Systems); commitment to data integrity. 12. Valid U.S. driver’s license. 13. In accordance with federal regulations, the Director must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident in order to serve as a Designated School Official (DSO) with the Student and Exchange Visitor Program, a division of the Department of Homeland Security.
