Research Assistant Professor on Probabilistic Ontologies and Reasoning
C4I & Cyber Center, Volgenau School of Engineering:
The George Mason University Center of Excellence in C4I & Cyber (C4I & Cyber Center), within the Volgenau School of Engineering, has two openings for the position of assistant research professor for a PhD graduate in information technology with experience in developing probabilistic representation and reasoning systems using the UnBBayes-MEBN probabilistic graphical framework, logical programming in Java, Python, and R, heterogeneous data fusion, cyber-security experimentation, semantic web languages and rule-based systems. The C4I & Cyber Center currently conducts research that investigates the applicability of a combination of models using highly expressive probabilistic ontology languages such as PR-OWL and advanced simulation techniques to address the problem of human cognition bottlenecks in highly dynamic operations. Among the main topics is the aggregation of heterogeneous data from cybersecurity experiments using probabilistic ontologies, and the automated establishment of multi-domain adaptive kill-chains in military operations. The C4I & Cyber Center is located on the main campus of George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia (https://c4i.gmu.edu/) and is part of the greater Washington DC area. George Mason University has a strong institutional commitment to the achievement of excellence and diversity among its faculty and staff, and strongly encourages candidates to apply who will enrich Mason's academic and culturally inclusive environment.
The candidate will be part of a multidisciplinary team developing novel techniques for heterogeneous data fusion and will be responsible for:
Development of first-order probabilistic reasoning models using the PR-OWL language and the UnBBayes-MEBN probabilistic graphical framework.
Development of advanced algorithms for probabilistic inference in multi-entity Bayesian Networks using Java, Python, and R.
Designing experiments, conducting heterogeneous data fusion research, drafting manuscripts, revisions and publication.
Candidates must have earned a doctorate in information technology, systems engineering, computer science or a closely related field to apply for this position.
Preference will be given to candidates with relevant experience and expertise in areas related to the research activities described above.
