The Financial Management Trainer/Consultant in the Consulting and Support group within Financial Management Services (FMS) utilizes their knowledge of Stanford policies, procedures and financial and reporting systems to create and maintain training; develop support resources; deliver training; assist in the development of communications and web content; respond to help requests; and provide consultation to administrative staff, financial analysts and finance managers. The ultimate goal is to prepare financial staff with the knowledge and skills to manage Stanford's finances and business processes. Candidates require strong financial and analytical experience and competencies in order to support the full scope of financial management processes at Stanford.
Specific job duties include:
Creating/updating/delivering instructor-led trainings, group presentations, Q&As, Info Sessions and one-on-one consultation (particularly during Open Lab).
Acting as lead instructor for courses included in the financial training curriculum.
Creating/editing materials for inclusion on the Gateway to Financial Activities website (aka Fingate), Data Governance (DG) Center, ServiceNow Knowledge Articles, and OBI discussion forum.
Functioning as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) to assist Business Services Instructional Designers in creating and updating eLearning courses and micro-learning modules on financial systems and processes.
Responding to ServiceNow Support Requests which are escalated for verification of business process reporting tool problems or opportunities for creating new training materials.
Collaborating with Business Services staff to develop and implement change management strategies and plans and associated deliverables (e.g., communications, training and support materials).
Performing analyses of data to suggest courses of action (e.g. review fingate page views of training materials).
Outside of FMS, the Financial Management Trainer/Consultant will interface with staff in University IT, Office of Sponsored Research, Research Financial Compliance Services, University Budget Office, Internal Audit, and campus clients.

JOB PURPOSE: Perform complex finance functions and/or activities requiring advanced knowledge and application of internal policies, external regulations, precedents, and systems. May manage a key area within a finance operation or department/unit.
Perform and design ad hoc analyses of large complex data sets: reconcile complex accounts.
Identify and resolve complex issues which may span multiple areas.
Construct and assemble data for budgeting and decision making; develop conclusions, and present high level summary of recommendations.
Conduct analysis and resolution, and recognize exceptions. Participate in developing solutions that may require policy changes or the development of new processes; maintain broader organizational perspective in decision making.
Execute internal control programs established by management, research new regulations, and recommend and implement approved changes. May manage compliance program for area of responsibility, and create complex compliance reports.
Develop reports and presentations of complex financial data and metrics for management and third parties.
Participate as a member of a project team; support new initiatives. Make decisions determining approach to managing and completing processes.
Contribute to unit and organization strategy; assist in the development of change management plans and materials as needed.
Develop and maintain desktop procedures and process documentation for area of responsibility.
Define requirements, develop and implement complex test cases, perform system testing and analyze results.
Participate in critical analysis of existing systems and processes, and identify opportunities for process improvement.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Advanced proficiency in Stanford systems, such as OBI, OFWeb modules, Authority Manager, etc.
Advanced proficiency in business applications, such as Microsoft Office suite, especially Excel.
Demonstrated knowledge of financial systems; internet and computer literacy.
Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
Strong communication skills, including ability to prepare materials for and clearly and effectively communicate information to internal and external audiences and client groups.
Demonstrated project management skills and ability to contribute to or lead part of a multi-functional team.
Frequently perform desk-based computer tasks, use telephone, writing by hand, sort/file paperwork.
