We are seeking an energetic and collaborative self-starter to join our tight-knit team at CEE as our program associate for public engagement. CEE promotes equity in education nationally and in New York State through a program of research, advocacy, litigation, and public engagement, specifically in areas such as fiscal equity, preparation for civic participation, and enforcement of students’ constitutional right to a quality education—with a particular focus on educational opportunities for students living in poverty and students of color. Under the supervision of, and with support from, the Director of Public Engagement and Government Affairs, the program associate will assume responsibility for key components of CEE’s public-engagement portfolio, including its youth-leadership programs.
• Bachelor’s degree required • Commitment to educational equity and an interest in education law, policy, and/or organizing • Superior written communication skills • Strong public-speaking skills • Strong interpersonal skills, including ability to interact effectively and sensitively with a wide range of partners from diverse professional and cultural backgrounds • Problem-solving skills in independent work and teamwork • Demonstrated ability to exercise strong judgment and initiative; to prioritize, and accurately complete multiple tasks; and work under deadlines • Strong IT, social networking, and computer skills, including proficiency in database maintenance, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, InDesign, Acrobat, WordPress, Google Drive, and with virtual-communications platform Zoom
• Master’s degree • Experience in working in youth development, social justice, public education, or community organizing • Experience in meeting/event planning • Bilingual Spanish speaker
