As the Assistant Nurse Manager in the Operating Room at Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, you are responsible for partnering with the OR Nurse Manager to assure department operations are carried out. Additional responsibilities include management and development of the unit, including, but not limited to, interviewing, hiring, and supervision of staff, assisting with developing and monitoring of budget, policies and procedures, both new employee orientation and ongoing education of staff, and management of quality improvement programs
Assist in operations, management and development of staff. Develop Quality Improvement Program, examining high volume/high risk, and low volume/high risk procedures and protocols. Develop, implement and report the unit’s clinical competency program focusing on high risk/high volume procedures. Maintain reports and records for JCAHO.
Collaborate with Nurse Manager, Clinical Head Nurses, Educator and Shared Governance councils to keep all policies, procedures, and protocols current.
Develop new policies and procedures and nurse driven protocols as appropriate. Assist with recruitment and retention of staff, the hiring process, and disciplinary action.
Evaluate performance of the nursing staff and other personnel. Assist with compliance of hospital standards and regulatory agencies. Monitor, interpret, and trend nursing productivity data.
Develop programs to meet the changing needs of the unit and improve efficiency of operations.
Act as manager in the absence of the Nurse Manager.
Work with leadership to assure staff meetings are held.
Assist in monitoring compliance with budgetary guidelines. Serve on hospital and Department of Nursing committees/task forces as assigned. Perform other duties as assigned
Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing or Master’s Degree in Nursing required 4 years clinical experience required.
Progressive leadership experience required
Currently licensed to practice as a registered nurse by Pennsylvania Board of Nurse Examiners required
