With enrollment and interest in the School at an all-time high, a deeply generous, supportive, and committed school community, and the most successful capital campaign in the history of the School concluding at the end of the fiscal year, GDS is in an enviable position. The campaign will provide funding to unify the three divisions of the school on a single campus (the new Lower/Middle School facility will adjoin the current High School site), as well as funds for the annual fund and financial aid.
For the position of Director of Institutional Advancement, the School seeks a strategic thinker, experienced fund raiser and manager, and practical visionary. Charged with oversight of all advancement efforts, including fundraising, communications, and constituent relations, the new Director will be assisted by a high functioning, experienced, and enthusiastic team.
The new Director will partner with The Head of School, the Board of Trustees, and the Associate Head to build on the success of The One GDS campaign, spearhead new philanthropic efforts, and help the community celebrate and commemorate this historic moment together.
Build on the very successful One GDS campaign to inaugurate a new era of continual philanthropy designed to strengthen the School’s endowment and capacity for increased financial aid.
Effectively plan, lead and manage Georgetown Day School’s integrated external relations program/s, to include fundraising, constituent relations, and communications;
Assess the current infrastructure in the areas of fundraising, constituent relations and communications and make recommendations for improvements to elevate functionality and capabilities;
In consultation with the Head of School and Board of Trustees, help develop and coordinate all aspects of ongoing campaigns. Establish goals and priorities for fundraising to attract the maximum gift support possible on behalf of the institution, including annual fund solicitations, planned giving programs, corporate and foundation gift and grant proposals, major capital gift fundraising, and endowment augmentation;
Provide oversight and direction for communications and constituent relations program to share GDS’ story and cultivate the notion of GDS as a primary philanthropic commitment.
Gain credibility with and the confidence of the Board of Trustees, senior administrators, and members of the advancement department in an effort to further strengthen and innovate the School’s advancement efforts.
Advise the Head of School on his external relations responsibilities, particularly those in fundraising.
Assist Head of School and Board of Trustees with strategic planning processes, as invited and appropriate;
Work closely with and support the Chairs and members of the Board Development and Governance committees in their efforts to raise annual, capital/endowment, and planning giving commitments;
Build and maintain strong relationships with robust volunteer committees and manage their ongoing fundraising efforts;
Help identify and recruit (as appropriate) qualified candidates for election to the Board, who will foster a culture of giving amongst the members;
Support the Head of School and Board members with cultivation and solicitation efforts;
Maintain a portfolio of top prospects and donors;
Effectively manage an operating budget within guidelines as established;
Plan and guide the growth of fundraising, constituent relations and communications offices;
Manage, mentor, train, and, as necessary, help recruit professional and administrative staff associated with external relations activities; and
Proven ability to design, implement, and bring to fruition major gifts campaigns
Demonstrated ability to manage, nurture, and motivate a team of professionals
Ability to manage multiple tasks with equanimity and consistently meet deadlines
High level of integrity, diplomacy, and initiative
Demonstrated commitment and experience working in a diverse, multicultural community
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Strong communication, public relation, and interpersonal skills.
Outstanding knowledge of fundraising data software and database management software
Flexibility, sense of humor, and willingness to assist with administrative tasks in a fast-paced team environment
High regard for confidentiality
Familiarity with independent schools is a plus
