Departmental Overview Student Affairs Information Technologies (SAIT) provides technology leadership and support to the Division of Student Affairs; technical support, education, and hands-on learning and leadership opportunities for students; and student advocacy and engagement in campus technology development. Our deep knowledge and understanding of our students' and staff needs, coupled with our technical expertise, makes SAIT a trusted partner, committed to an excellent student experience. Our dedication, responsiveness, and commitment equip us to meet our customers' evolving demands as we work collaboratively to serve students. The Student Affairs IT organization consists of 31 full-time career staff and over 70 part-time student staff, distributed across Development & Operations, Strategic Initiatives, Information Security, Technical Project & Portfolio Management, and Student Technologies.
Student Technologies are provided through unique student leadership model in which technical services are delivered by students, for students, in close collaboration with career staff managers. Our nationally-recognized student IT leadership program allows us to provide many of our services while training student employees and preparing them for professional roles after graduation. Student Technologies provides IT services to students campus-wide. These services include support for students' personally owned devices, assistance locating and navigating computing resources available on campus, residence hall network support, information security awareness and education, management of residence hall computing labs, Student Technology Council advising, and strategic leadership on new campus-wide student initiatives.
A central member of the SAIT Leadership Team, the Director of Student Technologies is responsible for managing the key services that SAIT provides to students, directing the campuswide student computing experience, and advising the Associate CIO and campus leadership on issues related to student technologies. Partnering with other campus units is critical to success.
Responsibilities Program Leadership and Service Management
Manages and directs through subordinate staff client-facing activities, security and copyright education and policy management, educational technology, and a nationally-recognized student IT leadership and employment development program.
Manages and identifies the acquisition and installation of student computing and relevant network systems and applications. Works with functional departments, faculty, and academic support staff to promote the effective integration of IT into teaching and learning and student-facing related activities.
Oversees initiatives and subordinate staff to build comprehensive strategies for utilizing technology in teaching, learning, research, and special events.
Is a member of the SAIT Leadership Group, responsible for providing strategic technology direction for an entire organization.
Departmental Management and Strategic Partnerships
Builds trusted and strategic partnerships with peer managers in IT and other areas of the university, including undergraduate and graduate student government and organizations, as well as faculty and instructional units and campus efforts such as the Discovery Initiative.
Maintains a positive relationship with other departments and personnel that will assist in the development, funding, promotion, and/or public relations of Student Affairs IT and the Student Technology Services program.
Supports the success and objectives of SAIT, the OneIT Strategic Plan, the Division of Student Affairs, and the Campus Strategic Plan. Contributes to sustaining a diverse and inclusive workplace environment.
Operations and Budget Coordination
Manages, through subordinate supervisors, the coordination of activities of a department with responsibility for results in terms of costs, methods, and employees.
Develops and monitors operational and budget processes, staff FTE, finance, human resources and space planning.
Policy Development and Administration
Establishes, recommends, and administers IT policies that directly affect subordinate employees in the department and the Student Affairs Division.
May analyze the needs of functional departments and help to establish priorities for feasibility studies and systems design and implementation to develop new and/or modify information systems. Coordinates with subordinate staff and functional departments involved to identify system requirements, techniques, and controls.
Identifies and selects training opportunities for professional development. Participates in cross-functional group discussions, activities and other training efforts.
Adheres to University and departmental policies, procedures, and professional practices as well as city, state, and federal laws. Is responsible for adherence to UC Berkeley's Data Classification Standard, Minimum Security Standards for Networked Devices and Minimum Security Standards for Electronic Information.

Master's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training
ITIL V3 Foundations training and certification
Salary & Benefits The salary range for this position is $120,000 to $140,000, commensurate with experience.
