The Austin-Round Rock metro area includes some of the fastest-growing communities in the country, and the Austin American-Statesman is looking for a growth reporter to write the stories of who we’re becoming in the context of who we’ve been. This person would be a natural storyteller who isn’t afraid of Census statistics but always has the narrative in mind. We want someone who is familiar with municipal government coverage -- including the issues of transportation, affordability, and budgets and taxes -- and who can write nuanced articles about how those topics affect members of our diverse communities differently. This beat would include lots of enterprise reporting, but the growth reporter would respond quickly to daily and breaking news. So while gathering string on the big Sunday A1 step-back, this reporter would also pounce on timely buzzworthy pieces. It’s a big beat.
If you’ve got the creativity, writing chops, and reporting skills to take it on, we’d like to hear from you. Contact Urban Affairs editor James Wangemann at firstname.lastname@example.org or 512-445-3659 with questions. To apply, go to https://bit.ly/2USyjcS.
