We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a School Health Nurse Practitioner!
In this role, the successful candidate will provide physical examination, diagnosis and treatment of medical conditions, immunizations, management of chronic diseases, preventive health care and referrals for comprehensive health care in a school based health clinic.
This position will provide coverage in our schools throughout Brooklyn and float to the various schools based on coverage needs, 10 months out of the year (summers off!).
Coordinate services in a school based setting
Serve as a resource person for orientation and staff development of School Health personnel
Assess responsibility for maintaining positive professional channels of communication with the School Based Health Care Team
Supervise non-medical personnel performance; make recommendations and/or take disciplinary action as necessary; confer with Director re implementation of disciplinary actions and/or terminations
Collaborate with School Health Providers and Director re: case management issues and site specific issues
Function as a child health advocate; provide health education and counseling as appropriate
Communicate the findings of health and developmental assessments to parents. Identify and manage acute illness and chronic medical conditions. Refer for specialty services as needed
Perform periodic physical examinations, developmental assessments and health screenings
Identify the health status of student by eliciting an age appropriate health and developmental history
Maintain statistical information and provide information for reports
Precept Nurse Practitioner students as appropriate
Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care based on physical, psychosocial, educational, safety and age-related criteria pertinent to the patients served in his/her assigned area
Other duties as assigned in alignment with the mission, goals and values of the organization
Master's degree in Nursing
NYS Nurse Practitioner license as FNP and/or PNP (or eligible to obtain)
Preference for candidate with experience in providing clinical services to children and adolescents
Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.
