Administers hyperbaric oxygen therapy to patients.
Operates and maintains hyperbaric chamber and associated systems and equipment as prescribed by a hyperbaric physician and under supervision of program director or clinical coordinator.
Monitors patients in the chamber and records patient condition. Ensures patient comfort and reports any unusual occurrences.
Maintains operating, maintenance and safety logs on hyperbaric equipment.
Maintains patient treatment records and collects data as required.
Is responsible for the safe delivery of hyperbaric oxygen therapy to the hyperbaric patient. There must be two (2) Chamber Operators on site at all times when a patient is receiving an HBO treatment.
Assists in patient preparation for treatment including patient transfers.
Participates in the safety program and reinforces education as it relates to hyperbaric therapy.
Maintains competencies, continuing education, and certifications as appropriate.
Certification Required: Successful completion of an Introductory Hyperbaric Training Course as approved by the National Board of Diving and Hyperbaric Medical Technology that includes passing a test of knowledge and hands-on skill demonstration within 90 days of hire. The training will be no less than 20 hours of didactic and hands-on instruction.
Certification Required: BLS (basic life support), Health Care Provider Certification.
Certification Preferred: Certified Hyperbaric Technologist (CHT) from the National Board of Diving and Hyperbaric Medical Technology (NBDHMT).
Required: High School Diploma or equivalent.
Required: Must be certified and/or licensed in one of the following vocations or hold a diploma from an accredited institution in one of the following professions to meet the minimum education and experience requirements: Respiratory Therapist; Physicianâ��s Assistant; EMT or Paramedic; Military Corpsman; Licensed Practical Nurse or Registered Nurse; Nurse Practitioner; Physician or Physiologist;
Certified Nurse Aide* Certified Medical Assistant*, Patient Care Technician*
* A minimum of 12 months of active employment as a CNA/CMA/PCT is required prior to commencing the CHT 480 hour clinical internship.
Required: One (1) year of experience as a hyperbaric technician providing hyperbaric treatment in a single site and/or multi-site HBO setting, OR One (1) year experience in an acute care (hospital) environment.
