In collaboration with the AVP for System Trauma Program, provides overall office coordination of the clinical services, performance improvement, registry, and employee supervision of the Trauma Program. There shall be evidence of strong communication and collaboration with nursing, physician and ancillary staff as well as the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) and American College of Surgeons (ACS). Essential functions of the role include:
Coordinates trauma care management across the continuum of trauma care, including planning, monitoring and implementing clinical practice guidelines/evidence based medicine, monitoring care of in-hospital patients and serving as a resource for clinical practice.
Assists with the continued development and implementation of the Trauma Performance Improvement Program. Assumes responsibility for all trauma performance improvement activities related to the trauma program.
Strategically assists in the planning to maintain trauma center verification and designation. Maintains awareness of local, national and state laws and regulations governing trauma care to verification and designation.
Establishes a climate that promotes teamwork and encourages the development of all trauma staff. Assists in the development and implementation of new programs, department specific policies and procedures and long range plans to meet trauma department objectives.
Assists in the supervision of the trauma registry, including collection, coding, scoring, and developing processes for validation of data.
Supervises the Trauma Coordinators and ensures compliance with trauma related practice guidelines, policies and procedures and standards of care. Supervises the Trauma Registrars and ensures timely and accurate abstraction and submission of trauma related data to the state.
Supervises the Trauma Injury Prevention/Outreach Coordinators and ensures provision of community injury prevention programs, education and outreach to Pre-hospital providers and referring facilities.
Takes personal responsibility to understand, complete and maintain the professional and technical licensures/certifications required of the position. Maintains continuing education requirements related to trauma.
Maintains a high level of expertise and professional growth related to the care of the trauma patient through review of current literature available on trauma.
Performs other position appropriate duties as required in a competent, professional and courteous manner.
The ideal candidate for the Trauma Program Manager role has nursing experience in critical care area: ED, STICU/PICU, OR, or PACU. The candidate must have experience in Trauma Program department and will be required to attend a Trauma Outcome Performance Improvement Course (TOPIC.) Previous supervisory experience is also preferred.
