A qualified Physician Assistant is a person who is licensed to practice medicine under the supervision of a licensed physician. A Physician Assistant does this by carrying out patient-specific orders by way of an established Delegation of Services Agreement with a Supervising Physician or by following protocols adopted by the Supervising Physician and approved through the Interdisciplinary Practice Committee and the appropriate clinical department(s).
The Surgical Physician's Assistant is an advanced practice role specific to the surgical population. The role is designed to effectively assist surgeons during surgery.
Graduate of an approved training program for Physician Assistants.
Hold a current license and be in good standing with the Medical Board of California.
Current BLS certification.
Current ACLS certification. Current PALS certification.
Have an identified, licensed Physician Supervisor(s) who is a member of the Medical Staff. As indicated, a similarly qualified physician(s) shall be identified for supervision in the absence of the primary Supervising Physician.
Be approved by the by the Interdisciplinary Practice Committee (IPC) chair, reviewed by the Medical Staff Executive Committee, and approved by the Governing Body prior to performing services at EMC and periodically thereafter.
Be subject to all applicable EMC policies and procedures and the Medical Staff Bylaws and Rules and Regulations as appropriate.
At least two years of experience as a surgical Physician Assistant.
