The Finance Division reports to the Chief Financial Officer and consists of some 3,000 employees worldwide. Finance protects the Morgan Stanley franchise by serving as guardian of the Firm's books and records, and by contributing to Firmwide risk management and risk reduction. This division maintains relationships with Morgan Stanley's various industry and government regulators, and also serves as the conduit of financial information to the outside investment community. Finance plays a critical role as advisor to Morgan Stanley's various businesses and its senior management team.
Valuation Control (VC) provides an independent valuation opinion across the entire spectrum of financial instruments within the Firm's sales and trading inventory and proprietary investment portfolio, ranging from vanilla products to the most complex structured and derivative transactions. The team leverages its diverse quantitative skill set and intimate product expertise to act as a guardian and approver of valuation methodology. The group's key clients are senior trading management and senior finance management.
The team is mandated to perform an independent valuation assessment on the diverse range of financial products. This process involves the certification of models and their valuation methodologies, testing for adherence to such methodologies, evaluating internal valuation marks against external benchmarks, identification and resolution of valuation discrepancies, and communicating a valuation assessment to senior management. The team is also involved in the continuous enhancements of the valuation control infrastructure with a view towards global and cross-product standardization.
The FID Model Control team is a global team with presence in London, New York, San Francisco, Budapest and Hong Kong, covering global macro, credit, loans, SPG and commodities. We are currently looking for a Head of Fixed Income Model Control to lead the group.
Managing a global team of 15+ people and ensuring the team deliverables are met and proper internal controls are adhered to
Lead the Model Control agenda within Valuation Control (covering Credit, Loans and Macro)
Represent Morgan Stanley Valuation Control in meetings with Regulators
Interaction with the trading desks and senior Strategists in New York, London, Hong Kong and Tokyo
Supervision of internal projects and deliverables
Strong academics required in a quantitative discipline such as economics, mathematics, physics, engineering of other technical fields.
Certificate in Quantitative Finance (CQF) or post graduate studies in a quant discipline is preferred.
Significant knowledge of Industry wide best practice with respect of model control and experience working in compliance with SR 11-7 is essential.
Experience in leading several work streams within complex projects.
Proven experience of interaction with Regulators and Senior Stakeholders.
Strong leadership, interpersonal and communication skills.
Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
