Description: This position oversees the Surveillance Systems and Informatics (SSI) program within the Tennessee Department of Health (TDH) Division of Communicable and Environmental Diseases and Emergency Preparedness (CEDEP). The SSI program provides technical support for informatics and data management systems to a variety of programs in CEDEP.
Activities include director-level oversight of and technical support for SSI program projects, including: interoperability of data management systems, data transport, electronic laboratory reporting, electronic case reporting, and implementation and maintenance of public health surveillance systems. This person will supervise a team of public health epidemiologists in the SSI program who are the technical leads for these various projects and systems.
This position will work with other CEDEP programs to support the informatics and surveillance system components of CDC grant applications and management, and work closely with the TDH Office of Informatics and Analytics. They will have extensive interactions with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), healthcare institutions, and state and local partners. There will be extensive opportunities to teach and mentor health department staff and trainees.
The CEDEP Division includes programs in Immunizations, TB, HIV/STD/Hepatitis, Healthcare Associated Infections and Antimicrobial Resistance, Environmental Health, Foodborne and Vectorborne Diseases, Outbreak Investigations, and Emergency Preparedness. Required qualifications: PhD, MD, DVM, DrPH or MPH and substantial work experience in public health epidemiology or informatics.
