The Office of Alumni Engagement (AE) facilitates lifelong relationships with and among friends, parents, faculty, staff and students. Charged with both building a community and fostering a culture of engagement, the AE Office is committed to intentional and focused engagement to achieve shared Institutional Advancement goals. The Assistant Director for Alumni Engagement will support the engagement efforts of the AE Office, focusing on students and young alumni. This position reports to the Executive Director for Alumni Engagement. Work is performed independently and requires the employee to be able to schedule and set priorities. The work of the Office of Alumni Engagement ultimately fuels a positive relationship with the Institute that results in stronger connections and increased philanthropy.
Develop and execute innovative engagement strategies and events that optimize and improve connections and networking opportunities with students and young alumni.
Conduct individual visits for volunteer recruitment, training and stewardship.
Manage a portfolio of student leaders and key young alumni to increase engagement and cultivation, creating unique and individualized plans for each (60% student engagement and 40% young alumni engagement).
Collaborate with IA program areas, colleagues across campus, and alumni regional network leaders to create and maintain pathways for student and young alumni engagement that advance the goals of the Institute.
Create a Young Alumni Council to provide leadership for young and alumni and students, as well as and keep them informed of ongoing initiatives and opportunities at Pratt and across the networks.
Work with Executive Director for Alumni Engagement to develop an annual professional development plan that will ensure awareness of trends, best practices and new information related to development, student and young alumni engagement.
Strengthen the Fund for Pratt and major gift pipeline by referring prospects to development colleagues as they emerge.
Uphold departmental and institutional policies regarding confidential information.
Experience: Three to five years of experience in alumni engagement, institutional advancement, volunteer management, student and young alumni programming, special events or related transferable experience required.
Knowledge and Skills:
Knowledge of programming and event coordination, with the ability to develop alumni and student engagement opportunities and events.
Knowledge of, or experience with, volunteer management with the proven ability to manage and train volunteers.
Experience with cultivating relationships with the ability to understand and tend to the needs of alumni and students, enthusiastically, promptly and effectively.
Strong analytical skills with the ability to compile and analyze data.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and complex projects.
Strong attention to detail; self-directed and creative problem-solver.
Understanding of the mission of Pratt Institute and the importance of the relationship between the Institute and its students and alumni.
Must have the ability to work well with diverse populations; and demonstrated level of cultural competence.
An understanding of the important role of diversity, equity, and inclusion to institutional advancement.
