Reporting to the Executive Director for Development, the Major Gifts Officer (MGO) is responsible for managing a portfolio of 125-150 major gift prospects with a focus on those living internationally. The MGO works collaboratively within Institutional Advancement and across Pratt faculty, staff, and Board of Trustees to secure gifts that advance the strategic goals of Pratt Institute. The MGO monitors prospect contacts to ensure positive and purposeful prospect and donor relations and recommends and assists with building and maintaining strong donor-centered relationships.
Oversee and manage Pratt's first internationally focused front line fundraising program.
Complete a minimum of 120 qualified contacts per year, with a focus on prospects living internationally.
Interest and understanding of cultivating parents, particularly in creating and implementing strategic timelines to engage parents and move them through the fundraising cycle.
Partner with Prospect Management and Research team and gift officers to screen, identify, and verify international major gift prospects and suspects, and collaborate with them on solicitation strategies.
Develop and implement in partnership with Donor Relations a strategic outreach plan for international prospects.
National and international travel required to conduct prospect visits, including visits with the President and Vice President of Institutional Advancement.
Assist with the preparation of briefing materials, strategies, and preparing the President, Vice President, and Executive Director for international travel.
Strong emotional intelligence, cultural sensitivity, and ability to adapt flexibly to change.
Participate in all aspects of the gift cycle, working independently in initiating contacts with potential donors, and developing appropriate cultivation and solicitation strategies to move prospects in an appropriate and timely fashion toward solicitation and closure.
Work closely with Institutional Advancement staff to ensure coordination among programs and initiatives across campus.
Record and document all personal prospect contacts and outcomes in the Raiser's Edge database.
Manage portfolio and proposal activity in each prospect's record, updating regularly.
Actively participate in the prospect review meetings and in the identification of major gifts prospects.
Monitor news on international events that impact Pratt's international student, alumni, and prospect population.
Assist with the preparation of briefing materials and strategies for the President, Vice President, and Executive Director as needed.
Participate in on-going professional development activities as relevant to maintain and enhance skills and abilities in fundraising.
Manage sensitive information and adheres to confidentiality policies regarding privacy of database information.
Conduct work in a manner that is ethical and sensitive to the needs of donors, development staff members, and Pratt Institute.
Experience: Five to seven years' successful experience in international major gift fundraising, preferably in higher education. Knowledge of Planned Gift and estate planning a plus.

Ability to balance competing priorities, complex gift scenarios, and tight deadlines, coordinating with the Director of Planned Giving where appropriate for blended gifts.
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team and manage multiple complex tasks simultaneously.
The intelligence, maturity, and sound judgement necessary for interfacing with major donor prospects.
Knowledge of moves management strategies and techniques.
Deadline-driven with high attention to detail.
Experience with databases, preferably Raiser's Edge.
Proficiency in Google platforms and Microsoft Office suite.
Must have the ability to work occasional nights and weekends.
Must have the ability to travel nationally and internationally as needed.
Appreciation for the important role that higher education and an art and design education plays in the world.
