The International Students and Scholars Office at Iowa State University is seeking qualified candidates for a Program Coordinator I (International Student Adviser). This position will advise and counsel international students regarding immigration regulations, personal issues, cultural adjustment, financial concerns, and university procedures. Other position responsibilities include teaching the International First-Year Experience Seminar; serving as a liaison to ISUdepartments and outside agencies; serving as an office emergency contact on a rotating basis; accurately managing the legal immigration status of international students; and making inquiries to U.S. government agencies.
In addition, this position will assist in the development, implementation, and evaluation of immigration and administrative policies and procedures; facilitate cross-cultural education through collaboration and interactions; and provide educational/informative programming throughout each semester.
The successful candidate will have the ability to problem-solve; work with diverse cultural, social, and international populations; respond effectively to unexpected situations; exercise independent judgment; and possess effective written and oral communication skills.
The International Students and Scholars Office (ISSO) provides immigration and cross-cultural expertise within a welcoming and supportive environment for international student and scholars throughout their university experience. ISSO is charged with maintenance of legal immigration status for the university’s international population.ISSO is the only unit at Iowa State University authorized to provide immigration documents to and file immigration benefit applications for the university’s nearly 5,000 international students, postdoctoral research associates, faculty, staff, and exchange visitors.
