UniqueSource®, the central nonprofit agency (CNA) in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania dedicated to obtaining and developing employment opportunities for individuals with disabilities through the fulfillment of state government contracts for products and services, is seeking nominations and applications for the position of President and CEO.
As a CNA, UniqueSource® identifies opportunities with various state agencies, negotiates contracts directly with the Commonwealth, assigns those contracts to members, and functions as a resource in supporting members’ abilities to perform the work. Currently, contracts with the Commonwealth comprise 95% of UniqueSource®’s business, and there is a growing opportunity for commercial contracts, particularly in the healthcare sector.
The President and CEO is the chief executive officer for UniqueSource® and directs all operations of the organization. The President and CEO is responsible for: stewardship of the organization’s financial resources; strategic leadership and direction, subject to approval by the Board; and the assurance of the highest quality of programs and services. This individual will have responsibility for ensuring that UniqueSource®’s mission to partner with member agencies to identify, market, and deliver products and services that create employment opportunities for professionals with disabilities is met.
Priorities for the new President and CEO in the first six to 12 months include the following:
Establish positive and effective working relationships with direct reports, the Board of Directors, member agencies, related organizations and associations, state and local government officials, entities and jurisdictions, and UniqueSource®’s customer base.
Grow sales and revenue in order to drive employment for people with disabilities at member organizations.
Lead policy advocacy initiatives in partnership with lobbyists. Support and lead the negotiation of complicated contracts with state government officials, especially those involved in procurement. Ensure that the State Use law is appropriately enforced.
Understand the industry-related challenges members are currently facing related to regulatory changes to secure the futures of member agencies.
Play a major leadership role in negotiating the new contract for the Photo ID contract.
Spend time learning about and assessing the spectrum of products and services delivered by UniqueSource® and its member agencies.
In partnership with the Board and senior leadership, evaluate UniqueSource®’s current strategic direction in order to make recommendations with regard to priorities and to grow revenue opportunities for the organization, with the goal of creating additional sustainable jobs for professionals with disabilities.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
The successful candidate for this position will possess excellent leadership skills, an ability to capture people’s imaginations with the special mission of the organization, and the ability to gain buy-in for a vision for the organization’s future. Additional background and experience will include the following:
Industry expertise, particularly those components dealing with business development, contracting, procurement, budget, legislation, and administrative rules and regulations, preferably within state government. Experience in Pennsylvania would be desirable, but not required;
Strong strategic and business planning acumen accompanied by a results- and data-orientation and an understanding of sound fiscal management, underscored by a demonstrated commitment to quality improvement and risk management directed at delivering products and services of a quality beyond that which is mandated by statute or regulation;
A successful track record of results in leading a complex organization with a commitment to a culture of excellence;
Proven experience selling services and products to governmental entities;
A strong negotiator. Politically astute with the ability to accommodate, compromise or stand up for what is right as circumstances dictate;
The ability to relate effectively to UniqueSource®’s diverse constituencies. Superior written and oral communication skills to effectively educate and influence diverse audiences, both internal and external. A good listener with the ability to convey mission;
A high energy level; one who is willing to pour himself or herself into the cause of this organization; accepting of the time and travel commitments associated with being the President and CEO of a statewide organization;
