Under the direction of the Senior Associate Athletics Director for External Operations, the Director of Marketing & Fan Experience is responsible for the development and execution of the strategic marketing plans and promotional activities for Furman’s 20 NCAA athletic teams with focus on ticketed sports. Instrumental in helping achieve departmental goals, the Director is a key member of the External Operations team and maintains focus on revenue, attendance, game atmosphere and branding.
Oversee/direct the marketing and branding initiatives for all 20 NCAA athletic teams
Develop strategic marketing plans for all ticketed sports with the objective of increasing revenue, attendance, fan engagement, and community engagement, with special focus on football, men’s basketball, and women’s basketball.
Provide vision and direction for the promotion of all sports
Conceptualize, schedule, and strategically implement print, digital, and radio advertising to advance community engagement and exposure
Collaborate with the Director of Social Media to create a strong, consistent presence across all social media platforms, including but not limited to Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter
Work closely with the Athletics Ticket Office to achieve sales and attendance goals by collaborating on the development and execution of a unified sales/marketing strategy/timeline, creating promotional ticket opportunities, and through group sales.
Collaborate with the Assistant Director of Creative Services on developing video content
Collaborate with various internal and external constituents, including student government, student involvement and other student organizations to increase student attendance and support.
Establish and activate short- and long-term marking goals and objectives, and consistently evaluate effectiveness to implement change when necessary.
Develop in-game scripts (including videoboard scripting) for all ticketed athletic events in coordination/cooperation with head coaches, Van Wagner Sports & Entertainment (VWSE), and operations team
Plan/coordinate all fan experience elements (including anthem, halftime, and musical entertainment), in-game promotions, PA announcements, and videoboard features in coordination with VWSE and the operations team
Procure and distribute promotional items, such as t-shirts and other giveaways
Coordinate annual events such as Fan Fest and Midnight Madness
Hire, schedule, and pay independent contractors that work with Furman Athletics for Marketing (i.e. on court emcee and DJ)
Oversee creation and production of posters for all sports
Manage marketing budget and submit annual budget requests to the Sr. Associate Athletics Director for Internal Operations
Oversee the creation of marketing graphics
Recruit and manage a team of student interns who are to be instrumental in executing game day functions and building/executing marketing plans for Olympic sports

Responsibility for Final Decisions:
Oversees the recruitment and management of a team of student volunteers/interns: interviewing, hiring and training student, event and temporary staff; planning, assigning, and directing work assignments.
Tasks involve multiple procedures with interrelated processes or steps. Work involves choosing the appropriate option or procedure to follow and applying established rules and procedures.
Errors are readily detected in the normal course of work by standard check or crosscheck, but may affect the work of others within the unit.
Reports To: Senior Associate Athletics Director for External Operations
Work is performed independently on routine work, non-routine issues or questions are referred to the supervisor.
Work is performed under usual office conditions as well as a variety of sports settings and outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, extreme heat and cold. The noise level work environment is usually moderate, but can be occasionally extremely loud.
Must be able to work extended and irregular, non-traditional hours.
Five years of experience in marketing, promotions and in-game promotion management
Supervisory experience; must be able to foster a participative supervisory style that utilizes leadership and teamwork to successfully guide the work of others
Experience building detailed game day scripts and timelines
Experience developing and executing strategic marketing plans
Knowledgeable about brand management/effective branding strategies
Strong interpersonal, customer service, motivational and (verbal and written) communication skills; including the ability to speak before groups
Ability to influence and build work relationships among a diverse workforce at all levels necessary
Ability to build strong work relationships with head coaches/their designee in order to develop and execute marketing strategies and promotions that positively represent their programs
Ability to develop rapport and maintain relationships with students, faculty, staff, corporate/campus partners, and fans
Excellent organizational, project management, creative thinking, and problem-solving skills
Must demonstrate an ability to adapt in a fast-paced environment and prepare/respond for a variety of athletics scenarios in success or defeat
Computer proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite or other graphic design software
Strong familiarity with social media platforms for business/marketing purposes
Must be able to maintain a flexible work schedule; including night and weekend work as it relates to athletic events
Bachelor's degree in Athletic Administration, Marketing, Communications, Management or related field
Marketing/Promotions or sales/advertising experience within a Division I or professional sports organization
Prior experience in a university setting
