Assists with the creation, implementation and maintenance of International Student Services and Diversity & Inclusion programming and events. Advises, trains, and mentors international students include those involved in the International Student Organization. Serves as primary contact for international students from admission to graduation. Performs assessment tests, presents information about services and facilitates workshops and campus conversations to support retention. Work hours: Monday - Friday; 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM or as work requirements indicate. May require occasional early mornings, evenings, and weekends.
Serves as ambassador to international students from admission to graduation and facilitates student acculturation into university life. Oversees and coordinates on-campus and off-campus programming for international students, including, but not limited to orientations, workshops, and social activities.
Assist with online and face-to-face international student orientation at all Tarleton campuses. Receives assistance from International Retention and Admissions Specialist for immigration details.
Corresponds with international students with information including, but not limited to, Next Steps for Admitted Students, Travel Endorsements, etc.
Coordinates and assists students with arrival arrangements including on and off-campus housing, airport pick-ups and drop-offs, store and bank visits, etc.
Facilitates a smooth transition into university life by providing assistance and proper referrals to student success, academic advising, housing, registrar, and immigration resources.
Coordinates transportation arrangements for international students throughout the academic year including summer. This includes airport pick-ups and drop-offs, as well as store visits. Manages Free Ride program in collaboration with College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences.
Provides ongoing support to international students as needed and remains up-to-date with any government and institutional changes and policies that might impact international students.
Provides support and services to students at outreach locations throughout academic year.
Maintains ongoing contact with international students to ensure their well being and successful cultural and academic adaptation to Tarleton and the United States.
Performs assessment tests, presents information about services, facilitates workshops, seminars, or other special projects to support retention.
Under direction, manages community support program (Texan Embassy) for international students. Creates spaces for interactions between international students and domestic students (Texan 2 Texan program).
Works collaboratively with other staff members to create and implement cultural-based programming for international and domestic students, including but not limited to the annual International Education Week and Spring Festival.
Provides leadership, support, and advocacy for international students
Facilitates campus conversations and activities about the connections between diversity and inclusion practices and at-risk student populationsâ™ matriculation through higher education to include, but not limited to, activities both on campus and within the broader community.
Oversees Good Neighbor Scholarship programs and coordinates with Financial Aid and Scholarship offices as needed.
Serves as Designated School Official (DSO) in order to assist with travel endorsement signatures and any other immigration related issues that may arise.
Attends meetings with Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) representatives.
Assist in the implementation of the annual Leaders 4 Diversity conference. This includes recruitment of speakers, imitating and completing contracts, recruiting volunteers and participants. Seeks out initial collaborations across the division, university, and community to facilitate student recruitment and increase funding.
Serves as advisor for the International Student Organization.
Organizes cultural and social activities for international students and interested domestic students.
Maintains website and social media presence up-to-date.
Serves on committees or work groups and one divisional or university committee. Completes other responsibilities as developed or assigned by the Director.
Other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience
Bachelorâ™s degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience. Three years of experience in student affairs work or related field.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Oral and written communication skills. Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
Masterâ™s degree is preferred. Experience in international recruitment and international visas is also preferred.
