This position developes and delivers nutritional education through EFNEP, the Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program and the Snap-Ed The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program – Education . This position teaches classes using the EFNEP curriculum for the majority of the average weekly work hours. Consistent with the philosophy, policy and overall mission, goals and educational objectives of the Cooperative Extension at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, EFNEP is a federally funded educational program which strives to improve the health of limited resource youth and families with young children through practical lessons in nutrition. Tasks include instruction, providing knowledgeable and focused customer service, marketing, event scheduling, and expense reporting. Renewal of the position is contingent on the availability of funds. This position is in Martin County.
Primary Function of Organizational Unit:
Cooperative Extension at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University is an educational outreach organization within the College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences. Cooperative Extension at A&T provides researched-based educational information, programming and technical assistance to limited-resource audiences that address a diverse range of issues in four programmatic areas – Agriculture and Natural Resources, Family and Consumer Sciences, Community and Rural Development, and 4-H Youth Development. Together with its partners – North Carolina State University Cooperative Extension Service, U.S. Department of Agriculture, state and county governments, a dynamic and resourceful system is formed. In addition to campus operations, Cooperative Extension at N.C. A&T has professionally staffed offices in almost half of the 100 counties in North Carolina and the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians. EFNEP's mission is to improve the health of limited resource youth and families with young children through practical lessons on: basic nutrition and healthy lifestyles, resource management and food safety. The program focuses on helping families and youth improve behaviors in the following areas: Dietary Intake as recommended by the Dietary Guidelines and MyPlate, Food Resource Management skills and practices, Nutrition Practices and Food Safety practices. Participants increase their ability to select and buy food that meets the nutritional needs of their families and gain new skills in food preparation, food storage, and food safety. They learn to better manage their food budgets – including the use of Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT), Food Instruments and Cash Value Vouchers. Additionally, in collaboration with many organizations through the Eat Smart and Move More initiative, NC EFNEP aims to reduce the rising tide of obesity by teaching youth and families' practical skills resulting in changed behaviors that help them to eat smart, move more and achieve a healthy weight

High School Diploma or equivalency and one year of related office experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
Bachelor’s degree in education or related field desired.
Knowledge or experiences related to nutrition and/or family and consumer sciences.
Experiences working with computers/internet based programs.
Experience working with low income clients helpful.
Ability to work both independently and as a team member.
