Position is a casual position up to 18 hours per week, providing administrative coordination to support the Johns Hopkins /National Human Genome Research Institute Genetic Counseling Training Program.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
Act as the liaison between the Genetic Training Program faculty at the NIH and Hopkins, including monitoring changes in faculty teaching responsibilities, appointments and timely submission of grades.
Act as an informational and administrative resource for the Program students. Responsibilities include tracking student progress and assist students in identifying the appropriate resources/contacts to address financial aid issues, transcript discrepancies, international student visas and registration concerns.
Along with the Program Director at the NHGRI and the Hopkins Contracts Associate, assist in drafting new or changing Rotation Agreements governing supervised clinical rotations Certificate of Insurance from JHU for each rotation site.
These activities occur throughout the academic year.
Provide administrative support and guidance to applicants throughout the admission process. Prior to the application process: Serve as the first contact for potential applicants; respond to student inquiries, provide links to program resources (FAQ, website links), arrange campus tours and meet with applicants when requested. These activities generally occur late summer through fall. During the admission process: Oversee administration of application review. This includes working with Shenay Johnson to update the admissions shared drive as applications are complete, assure that all reviewers have access to the site and are assigned to applications.
Arrange interviewing schedules for the top-rated applications at Hopkins and NIH and logistical support for transportation and housing. These activities begin in January and run through April.
Provide administrative support for student and program research activities taken on by the program as it develops and evaluates new models of instruction; and, provide support and guidance to Program students as they undertake their thesis research.
High School Diploma/GED and five (5) years progressively responsible administrative experience.
Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.
Related BA or BS degree familiarity with NIH-supported programs/studies, familiarity with professional and research training programs.
