About Francis Parker School:
Francis Parker School is a coeducational independent day school in San Diego, California with 1250 students in grades JK-12. Overlooking Mission Valley, two separate campuses serve students in Lower School – junior kindergarten through 5th grade; Middle School – 6th grade through 8th grade and Upper School – 9th grade through 12th grade. As a college preparatory school Parker offers a comprehensive program that includes twenty-five advanced placement courses as well as a rich palette of electives – all designed to meet the individual needs of our students.
Francis Parker School seeks an enthusiastic, dedicated and talented teacher to teach AP Economics and Social Studies in our 6-12 Social Studies Department.
The ideal candidate will be innovative, creative and will also facilitate student learning while utilizing a variety of teaching methods, resources and technology as we develop critical thinkers. Candidates must be able to work creatively and collaboratively within the scope and sequence to create a challenging environment that invites respect for all while consistently assessing student progress to inform students and parents of progress. Anticipated classes for 2019-20 will be two sections of AP Economics and two other Social Studies sections, either World History or American History. This is an 80% position and includes prorated benefits. There is a possibility that, due to enrollment, the assignment may increase to a full teaching load of 5 sections. This course assignment may change from year to year based on the needs of our students and overall staffing needs.
The Upper School, which includes grades 9-12 and enrolls 500+ students, is a rigorous and supportive academic environment focused on preparing students for intellectual engagement while in high school and in the years beyond. Building on the work of the Lower and Middle
Schools, the Upper School emphasizes academic achievement, global citizenship, and strength of character in order to prepare students to make a meaningful difference in the world.
The preferred candidate will have a depth of content knowledge that equips him or her to teach Economics at the AP level and experience with high school students.
Develop and execute classroom lessons
Assign relevant coursework
Create tests and evaluate student performance
Conferencing with students and department chair as needed
Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in a relevant field preferred
Experience teaching Social Studies in high school preferred
