Mesa West Capital is seeking an experienced Analyst for its Originations Department in our New York office. Attention to detail is a critical element to the position, with the ability to manage multiple deals simultaneously and efficiently utilize resources. The ideal candidate has one to two years of real estate experience and can operate both independently and in a team environment. Candidates should be proficient in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Word and have the ability to create clear and concise work product. Strong written, verbal and presentation skills are a must. ARGUS experience is preferred.
The candidate will have the opportunity to interact directly with all levels of Senior Management, including Investment Committee, as well as direct client contact not seen in larger organizations.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES The key responsibilities of the position are: · Review and screen commercial real estate financing opportunities and form an opinion. · Create detailed financial analyses of commercial real estate financing opportunities using Excel, Argus and other software programs. · Coordinate efforts leading to transaction closing. · Review and research property, financial, market and legal due diligence matters. · Prepare internal investment memoranda. · Participate in the investment committee process. · Develop skills to source new financing opportunities and market the firm through active participation in the real estate community.
REQUIREMENTS Candidates for this position must also have the following: · One to two years experience in commercial real estate areas which could include finance, banking, equity, and management. · Strong academic background and undergraduate degree in business, finance, economics or real estate from a top tier university. Minimum GPA of 3.50. · Real estate program or coursework a plus. · An understanding of financial modeling including discounted cash flows, IRR calculation and scenario analysis. · Real estate underwriting and valuation experience. · Excellent Microsoft Excel skills with the ability to create models from scratch. Argus experience a plus. · Strong analytical and quantitative approach to business and problem solving. · Experience with or understanding of basic capital markets principals including interest rate calculations and basic bond math. · Strong written and verbal communication skills. The candidate must be able to articulate orally and in writing his/her position and defend that position logically.
