The Biology Department on the Lima campus seeks an Instructor for the Biology Program for the 2019-20 academic year. The successful candidate will have a strong commitment to the teaching mission of The Ohio State University and a background in teaching laboratory and lecture components of introductory biology courses for biology majors and nonbiology majors, human biology, and genetics. Collaboration with related lecture course instructors and the coordinator for Biology is expected. The Ohio State University at Lima is one of five campuses of The Ohio State University. Current enrollment on the Lima campus is approximately 1,000 students with approximately 70 full- and part-time faculty across all academic programs. Average class size at the Lima campus is 18 students. Ohio State Lima offers the first two years of the Ohio State general education curriculum and twelve programs leading to baccalaureate degrees, including Biology and Zoology. Essential Duties: Develop engaging curriculum materials using best teaching practices for laboratory courses in introductory biology for biology majors and non-biology majors, human biology, and genetics. Hold office hours outside of class sessions. The main teaching responsibility is likely to involve Introductory Biology (BIO 1101, for Biology majors; BIO 1102, for non-Biology majors; BIO 1113 and BIO 1114 for Biology majors) and Genetics (MOLGEN 4500). This includes between 3 and 5 lab sessions per semester, plus between 3 and 5 lecture sections to total approximately 11-13 contact hours per semester.
