Witt/Kieffer has been retained by Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center (BSLMC) in Houston, Texas to conduct the search for a dynamic, experienced, highly visible and engaging nursing executive to serve as the Baylor St. Luke's Medical Center (BSLMC) Senior Vice President (SVP) of Patient Care Service and Chief Nursing Officer (CNO). CHI St. Luke's Health Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center (BSLMC) is an 879-bed quaternary care hospital that is part of the Texas Division of CHI St. Luke’s Health and a member of CommonSpirit Health.
The BSLMC SVP and CNO is responsible for the professional practice of nursing and the delivery of high quality nursing care at Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center (BSLMC) and the three Community Emergency Clinics (CECS). The SVP and CNO will provide leadership and strategic direction for nursing care at BSLMC. S/he will collaborate with the BSLMC Market Senior Vice President of Medical Operations (CMO) to create a high reliability organization to deliver the highest quality of patient care, outcomes, patient experience and patient safety. In partnership, the CNO and CMO will facilitate the analysis and implementation of clinical quality improvement opportunities. Together, they will lead by example to enhance clinical care partnerships and collaboration between physicians and nurses at the bedside.
The SVP and CNO will lead patient care services consistent with CHI St. Luke's Health Texas Division and BSLMC mission, vision, values and goals. S/he will evaluate and enhance the nursing leadership structure and recruit and retain talent to lead patient care services forward. The CNO will reestablish the professional practice of nursing across the hospital and establish an effective shared governance structure. S/he will create a culture of accountability and pride throughout nursing and a practice environment that assures CHI St. Luke's as an employer of choice. The SVP and CNO will serve as a strong mentor of nursing leaders and will support nursing leadership development and educational initiatives to create the highest levels of clinical competency and to develop future nursing leaders.
The CNO will contribute as an integral and collaborative member of the senior leadership team of BSLMC and serve as a member of the CHI St. Luke’s Texas Division Nurse Executive Council to establish nursing strategies, goals and standards for the Texas Division. The SVP/CNO reports Doug Lawson, Acting President of BSLMC and Lorie Shoemaker CHI St. Luke's Texas Division Chief Nursing Officer. Direct reports include: Vice President of Medical/Surgical Nursing; Vice President of Critical Care Nursing; Director of Emergency Services; and, Director of Nursing Operations. The CNO will serve as the executive liaison to Texas Division Patient Care Services Departments including: Nursing Patient Education and Research; Magnet Recognition Program; Nursing Research; Center for Advanced Clinical Practice; Palliative Care; Diabetes Program; and, Transfer Center Bed Placement.
