The Sinclair School of Nursing of the University of Missouri is recruiting for an APRN (CNS or NP) to work in a federally-funded research effort known as the Missouri Quality Initiative for Nursing Homes (MOQI). The primary role of this position is to assess and monitor health status of long-term care residents at a St. Louis area nursing home. This unique opportunity will allow the APRN to utilize their existing knowledge and skills to influence the care of older adults. The findings from this research will be used to impact national policy related to institutional care of older adults.
Working with nursing home staff and primary care providers, diagnosing, and managing acute episodic and chronic illnesses of residents in assigned nursing home.
Working relationship with attending physicians, primary care providers and medical director of long-term care setting leading to improved communication about health status of residents.
Working with nursing home staff, recognize, manage, and communicate condition changes among enrolled residents to reduce unnecessary hospitalization of enrollees.
Working knowledge of INTERACT model and participation in educational programs for assigned nursing home staff. 6. Role model for nursing home staff use of early illness detection skills and use of INTERACT tools.
A working knowledge of quality improvement practices, latest clinical evidence-based practices in nursing and health care and evidence-based organizational improvement practices.
Working knowledge of required federal nursing home Resident Assessment Instrument (RAI) process and an understanding of the Casper Report.
A working knowledge of Minimum Data Set (MDS) derived quality indicators of nursing homes.
Ability to work directly with nursing home leadership team in implementation of teams for decision making and quality improvement.
Ability to work with all levels of nursing home staff to assist them in using INTERACT tools leading to early illness detection skills.
Ability to establish collaborative working relationship with interdisciplinary faculty and research staff at MU to develop needed links with experts that may be essential to assisting facilities with different kinds of clinical and organizational practice issues.
Working knowledge of charting system within assigned nursing home and participation in developing health information exchange portals to transferring hospitals and other stakeholders in community.
An ability to maintain confidentiality while working in the assigned nursing home. 15. Participation in meetings to related to MOQI goals and expectations.
Maintenance of clinical skills over the timeframe of the grant.
Working knowledge of applied and evaluative research designs and input of data essential to monitoring the outcomes of MOQI.
Enter clinical data into Resident Roster Database on monthly basis for use for feedback reports and data submission to CMS (Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services).
Ability to practice communication efforts using Crucial Conversations skills; education provided by MU.
Minimum Qualifications Master's degree in Nursing is minimum requirement from an accredited college or university with a concentration in an advanced practice nursing clinical specialty related to the care of adults. Two to three years of nursing experience. Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of Missouri and a document of recognition as an advanced practice nurse from the Missouri State Board of Nursing is required.
